  • What do you think of this setup?

I have a little extra money coming my way and decided it's time to deal with my post-cat exhaust leak and dying muffler. After some research I compiled a setup that I think will sound somewhat mild and not too obnoxious. Obviously stock is the best setup for a quiet and less raspy car, but I'm ready for an upgrade. Here it is:

    CIA Headers & Y-pipe
3" Dynomax Bullet Resonator in place of catalytic converter (no emissions here)
    ZZP O2 Sim
2.5" custom mandrel bent piping along with I-pipe, S-pipe, and Over-axle
Borla Pro XS Single In/Dual Out Muffler with tucked tips (I don't like tips showing underneath Camaros much)

What do you think? Shouldn't be too loud with the exception of being catless, right? I know some members have really liked that muffler, so I'm hoping it will be somewhat mellow. Especially since I live at the top of a hill. :D

I know that it's creating a bottleneck, but I just don't see the need for 3" exhaust on my currently stock daily driven car at the moment (no offense to anyone that is). I may look into putting in a mild streetable cam later on after all the supporting mods have been installed. But that's still not certain. My current goals for this car don't exceed that.

I'm going to have a friend that's a little more exhaust savvy install and weld this for me after piecing together all the piping. We can easily follow the directions on making an S-pipe, and can get this I-pipe, but does anyone any suggestions for sites that carry 2.5" over-axle pipes? Figured I'd try asking.

Any other suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

summit has the over axle pipe too:

Also check rockauto.com for the dynomax pipes. They were cheaper when I bought mine.

Do you have a link to the muffler you're looking at?

the setup will def. flow well. but may be to loud at high rpm's imo. the outlet that you have planned will def. make it sound better and a little quieter. i have stock exiting exhaust also, it sounds great.

this may be a better option for the resonator. its louvered inside so you can try it both directions to adjust the sound. i have the same one but i have it installed backwards to absorb some sound. i have the 80 series flowmaster too. i am always getting mistaken for an ls1, even in the autocross course.

trust me i have never heard a better sounding v6 than mine and thats what randoms on the street say.

the magnaflow and borla dont use any sound canceling tech. they just have sound absorbing material. the flowmaster actually cancels sound and the glaspack resonator absorbs the highs

Cool. Somehow I missed that earlier. I'll have to check out rockauto.com too. Thanks for the link.

This is the borla muffler I'm wanting to use. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-...=p4506.c0.m245

I also did some more searches on here and a few other sites and decided that if it's still too loud or ricey, I may throw in a Magnaflow Hi Flow cat to tone it down some and run a resonator after that. Think that'll help or be overkill?

whats the point of having dual outs if they're not going to be visible?

Visible from afar. My magnaflow tips stick out past the bumper... i'd rather have 2 stock-like outlets than my current tips.

In the case that I actually find some tips I wouldn't mind sticking out under the bumper. I wouldn't have to spend money to get a new muffler.

That and I believe that the single outlet vs dual outlet may sound slightly different.

Re: What do you think of this setup?

I hate the look of tips on most camaros. I ended up ripping my tips off (they rattled), and kept them off because I like the look so much.

This is what it looks like when you can see them. It all depends on shadows and whatnot.

If you do get visible tips, dont get the small circular ones. Those just look cheap imo. I would either get some that are larger slash cuts, or something ovalish.
These are the Ractive tips that I had before. They were smoked chrome, and looked pretty nice. Crappy quality though.

I wouldn't worry about the bottle neck. its not that drastic, and it would be worse if it was 2.5"-3", rather than 3"-2.5".
                  Should sound nice!
