Whats your opinion on the best headers for a 98 firebird. As of now its pretty much stock, the cat is the only thing gone. I would like it to be a true dual, no y-pipe. I was thinking, just get headers, then get someone to fabricate the pipes to the back. My friend got some hooker headers for his truck and they sound MEAN. Hes got an old silverado with a 305 and its got a nice old muscle car rumble now. Id like something like that, but I couldnt find hooker headers for a v6 firebird, only T/As..
like onspeed said.. that is the reality. Our cars will never sound like a v8. It has to do with firing order most of all as far as I know and our cars don't have the 2 extra cylinders to produce what has been called a "harmony" I think the exhaust tone of our cars is actually classified as "noise".
The best you can do is get some longtube headers. I don't know who makes them but I know they're expensive. They maybe just a custom fab right now but if you really want them you might have to come up with them on your own or with some local help. I think meatyshells bought them from someone else on the board who fabbed some up.
You should check out the exhaust clips that are somewhere on this board.

HELP??
I'd say go with Pacesetter Headers, the downpipe does meet into the collector. For a better idea, the driver side swings over to the passenger side, the passenger side is straight down with no extra bends. In the end, I'd say get Pacesetters (with Abbott Racing gaskets), then you either install or have a exhaust shop do it by just cutting off the collector and then route your pipes, bingo bango.
I just got Pacesetter's installed on mine. I wasn't expecting that big of a sound difference, but it changed ALOT. It is mainly just louder, my American Thunder catback sounds good but my only complaint was that it was just too quiet. With the headers the tone has deepened slightly but has gotten much louder.
Ive got the nice v8 sound at idle, had a few people ask if it was a 305 or 350 in the past 2 weeks. I laugh. But when i get on it, oh man it sound like ***. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0J_uf9hyv_Y

thats what im thinking of doing. I want my guy to cut the ypipe before the collector, then fab the rest: true duals, h-piped, high flow cats (for inspection then ill gut'em) to two borla x-r1's, piped under axle with some sort of clamp or flang so if i need to jack the rear up i can
all 2.25 or at most 2.5. but i think 2.25 is the way to go
He just looks like hes gona hit me everytime i bring it up and dosnt believe it will help the rasp at all
go over to ls1tech and see how they route trual duals.
waste of money. a 3" catback will flow plenty for us, even modded.
most exhuast shops wont even put true duals on our cars. and with the ground clearance issues if you do get them on, its just not worth it. yes they sound better, but its not worth the hassle.
edit: if you do, go 2.25". 2.5" duals would be way too much flow, stupid even.

 its gonna be very hard to get a "mean" sounding v6 very few ppl have done it there will be plenty of rasp
I know Im not going to get a nice v8 rumble, I just want rid of the quietness and duals look badass. The rasp wouldnt bother me that bad tbh, it would be less rasp than most of the guys i ride with lol. Plus I was wanting some more flow in my exhaust as I plan on doing some work on the intake.
