  • New Headers, powerband moving up?

I just got Pacesetter headers installed on my 2000 Camaro M5. It sounds great, but I seemed to have noticed that the torque has moved up by a few hundred RPMs. For instance, in third you would get the most 'kick' at about 3,000 rpms. Now it seems like you get that kick somewhere closer to 3,300 to 3,500 rpms.

I also just installed the SLP flopac intake, and have had an American thunder catback on there for about two years.

Is this normal, or is there something wrong?

Ive heard a couple people say this, so im gonna say it is normal. Im not 100% positive though, this friday im install my complete exhaust headers to the tips, so I'll let you know, but im pretty sure your all set.

Have a sound clip of your exhaust?

Sounds about right a few hundred rpms. I don't know what gears you have but if you go with bigger gears it helps alot too. I went from 3.42's to 3.73's and that improved my low end powerband as well , from running my RK Sport headers and 3" exhaust going to a 3" Summit Turbo muffler.

i have pacesetter's and the rumbler and didnt notice anykind of tq loss down low. the car still barks 2cd hard and will scream the tires from a 10mph roll.

open headers is one thing, yea your going to loose a little down low.

at most you might move the peak power up a few hundred RPMS. people are always so worryed about losing power down low, it doesnt really happen.

Thats true you don't lose anything(HP orTQ) it is just smoother then it was before but your still putting out better numbers, but lose some of the seat in the pants dyno.LOL

Crap. I just finished putting pads on all four wheels and when I went to test drive it my car was kind of sputtering and now there is a definite exhaust leak. I'll have to take it back to the shop that put the headers on. It sounds like the leak is coming from under the car so hopefully they will just have to tighten a clamp or fix a leaky weld rather than have to wait on ordering a new gasket.

probally the Y pipe connections. the Y pipe bolts AND the header bolts will loosen over time, from heating and cooling. the first month or so you should tighten all the bolts once a week or so, depending on how often you drive the car.

If only it were that easy. I just did a thorough inspection and one of the bolts on the head is sheared off. I suspect they over-torqued it and then when it heated it popped off. The real sucky part is that I have to drive back home tomorrow (my appartment by school in Tampa) and won't be back to St. Pete (where my parents and the shop are) until at the very earliest on Friday. So I have to drive around with the exhaust leak to end all exhaust leaks until then.
