  • need a new muffler

hey guys i need a new muffler because im not sure if i can fix the old one

    i have a 98 camaro, and i want a dual outlet muffler

i want it it be QUIET, like a stock z28/v6 performance muffler, i want the look of having a dual exhaust with no ricer sound

can anyone point me in the right direction? Im sure i can find a stock z28 muffler, but at this point its going to be at least 7 years old, and probably in no better condition than the one i just had break on me

thanks for any help, and yes i did search, but it seems everyone puts really loud exhausts on their car, and i really dont want that

    Re: need a new muffler

i wish they sold the borla muffler i just put on mine seperately so you could throw it in....it's waaaay quieter than my old flowmaster catback and is much deeper and no rasp. but unfortunately you gotta pay pretty penny and get the whole thing new

see if you can find a borla dual outlet muffler on ls1 tech, you'll like it if you find it. i could cruise on the interstate and not even hear the car, but if you open it up it sounds great and still not too loud.

until i put my cutout in with the full exhaust everyone said my car was much quieter and "classy" sounding bc it wasn't obnoxiously loud with the borla haha. so now i can be loud open headers or quiet 'n classy borla.

I love my Dynomax Super Turbo, sounds really good on my car at least with my mods. I would see if they make a dual outlet versions.

thanks, my friend had one on his jeep and it was pretty loud, although he had no cat and a straight pipe

No sound clip on mine, my little video camara makes it sound not good, it is better in person. If I had a nice recording device I would post one.

                  Re: need a new muffler

i might try and make a quick vid of my new setup after work today, but yes, the borla system is smooth and quiet compared to flowmaster, but muuuuch better sounding.

you can get a xr-1 bullet style muffler for cheap if you go with a single outlet tho.

                    Re: need a new muffler

                    +1 to the Super Turbo.

I've got mine in now, with dual outlets...

It's loud when you want it to be, but has a classy rumble otherwise. No rasp unless you're being a moron and revving around 5k at a stop. (I had to... just once)

You can pick one up online at www.rockauto.com for $68 + s&h. It's a 2.5" ID/OD, single in, dual out.

i've always considered thrush mufflers to be fairly quiet, compared to other performance aftermarket brands. it might be worth it to look into those.

since you are looking for a quiet system, you may also want to consider a two muffler setup - one in the i-pipe and one behind the axle. i have a magnaflow cat-back and want it a little quieter, so i got an slp resonator to add in the i-pipe. i don't know how much it will help, but it's worth a shot.

                          yeah, thanks

im going to try to get my old muffler welded back, but im not sure if it can be done or not, there is just a tiny piece of pipe coming out of the muffler

it might have to be tig welded in and i dont know anybody with a tig

Didn't they make a stock dual 1.5" outlet muffler for some V6's? Guessing the RS package V6's? Why not just throw that one on and get some nice tips?
