Yes, a reciprocating saw works very well! Make sure you use a blade for cutting "metal" though, or you'll have a very hard time.

Another good tip; Before and during the sawing process, use a few drops of motor oil (any grade) where the blade is making contact with the metal you're cutting. It prolongs the blade life, it makes it easier for the blade to move inside of the cut, and it cuts much faster.

        Re: Bolt-On Cat?

        I bought a 4' x 2.5" aluminumized tube from jegs and a couple U-Clamps. Hopefully that'll slide over the 2.25" stock tubing.

am I going to throw codes? isn't there an 02 sensor on the cat? I don't remember seeing one on the cat, before it but not on it...could be mistaken though.

          Re: Bolt-On Cat?

The carsound converter I purchased (waaay back in the day...) did not have a bung to accommodate an O2 Sensor. I drilled out my own spot where I wanted to mount it and welded in my own bung.

I used a "stepped drill bit", like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/3-Piece-HSS-M2-T...QQcmdZViewItem

The bung I used looked like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVE...QQcmdZViewItem

I cut the threaded (male) end off, and welded the bung into the hole that I drilled out. The sensor fit in perfectly. If you were closer, I'd drill, cut and weld the bung in for you. Probably would take me less than 1/2 hour.

Although, any exhaust shop could do this for about $20-$30. That's if you carried the converter in and had the area marked off where you want the O2 sensor to fit.

Even easier yet is an O2 sim.

So question... Lets just say I wanna drive with just the straight pipe but want to use the stock 02 sensor, is it possible or will it still throw codes and mess with fuel/oxygen ratio?

Is the only way a simulator at that point?

If it was me just use 3 bolt flanges and make a CAT and straight pipe with them and then you could swap them out and they should seal well with the 3 bolt flanges. Kind of like off road pipe kit. Thats the only way I would do it unless do a cutout before the cat which would sound awful.

That's kind of what I'm doing...making it bolt-on so I can swap out between straight pipe or cat...I need to know if I drill and bung the straight pipe will the O2 sensor still throw codes?

                    Re: Bolt-On Cat?

If you have a post CAT sensor it will throw codes after awhile, how many O2's do you have ,on my 96' there are 4 2 mani's , 1 pre cat , 1 post cat. Post Cat I delete since the PCM doesn't use it.

Hmmm, I thought there was one "on" the cat...

                      to ssms and blizzard...

I have no problem with you guys, but your starting to wear on my last nerve...I made one simple comment as to why a guy that just installed headers doesn't know how to change spark plugs and I get the 3rd degree...so quit with the damn bullying...alright?
