  • Gasket blew.. now what?

hey guys, questions for ya: i've got a 00 firebird and i just put a set of pacesetters in a week or so ago. and all was good once i welded them all up. but then a day later the gasket that goes in between the driver side header and the egr tube blew out. so i went to napa, az, and even a gm dealership looking for the gasket. and no one came close to carrying the gasket. the closest thing they had was the egr valve gasket its self, and i looked at it and its not even close to what im looking for. the guy that i talked to at the gm dealership said that there isn't even a gasket that suppost to be there. sooo i went home and took out what was left of the gasket, then bolted the egr tube back up to the headers as tightly as i could, fired it up and its still leaking right where the gasket was.

does anyone have any ideas on what i should do??

Go buy some gasket material and cut your own; seal it up with some RTV too and you should be good.

alright, ill have to give that a try. does the gasket material have to be so sort of high temp material?

High Temp RTV should work. It can get messy, but if you're careful it should seal up nicely.

          Yeah, what she said ^^.

Or just get some of the 'form a gasket sealant' for high temp applications. Same idea, just another type.

High temp copper RTV. Should do the trick.
