my camaro doesn't sound like crap, ballermaro's don't sound like crap....with bolt-on's and properly done internals and proper exhaust to support your mods you can come very close to a V8 sound.

I have no clue what you just said here...I'm going to guess you have an automatic...as I don't think I have a rev limiter on my manual...6 grand FTW!

        Re: Gm V6 Exhaust Sound?

like ne0 said, you can come very close to a v8 sound (at idle, most of the time). many have. and actually, i believe a lot of the guys on this site get asked if they have an ls1 - hopefully that will be me soon :D

and as a warning, this site does not tolerate street racing, so please don't be a newb and post about your kill last night (if you do)..i'm not accusing you of it, just giving you a fair warning..do it safe - do it on the track.

damnit, now i sound like a preacher :slap:

This is what my car sounds like currently with my custom 2.5inch magnaflow cat back with 3' magnaflow high flow cat. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v6...t=MVI_0138.flv
This is a step in the right direction
          http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v5...t=3946a1c8.flv
and this is my goal for sound

What should I get to achieve this? I already have a highflow cat, I dont plan on getting a cam, and I dont want flowmaster had it on b4 my magnaflow and hated it.

save some cash and keep your eyes peeled for a borla setup to go on sale, or get a shop to fab up your pipes and find just the muffler. headers and a cam will do wonders for your exhaust sound and tone.

i had a 3" highflow and flowmasters before i went full exhaust and it's a world of difference now.

if you're looking for something cheaper than borla, check out a tps rumbler or slp loudmouth system too.

personally, i'd highly recommend headers and completing your exhaust.

So by completing my exhaust, you mean just get some headers?

                  Re: Gm V6 Exhaust Sound?

If that's what's left of your exhaust to do.. Definitely finish it. Then mix and match whatever muffler seems appealing. You've had plenty of them listed with all the different opinions. But, I cannot stress enough as to how much different your car will sound with a performance camshaft. That's obvious though right?

Add a cutout in there somewhere. I haven't heard for myself but others have said that a partially open cutout can sound pretty good.

well when I bought it it came with a flowmaster catback im pretty sure, and I had that replaced with the magnaflow specific v6 fbody muffler and a 3inch higflow cat.

nail on the head right here. i did my full headers and borla exhaust then threw in a cutout that i run just cracked for some deep tone and volume, and that's what the doctor ordered.

exactly why ppl ask me if it's a ls1.

and the beautiful thing with an electric is i can close it when i need to be quiet or get great mileage (on my trip up to northern VA i got 30+ mpg highway!), or open it however much i want for some serious rumble.
