  • Engine blew!

1st time spraying. I hit second gear,2500rpm and put it to the floor, nos kicked in and pulled hard, engine sounded good and ran smooth, shifted to third still good, SES light pops on and engine shutters then dies. It starts, shakes real bad, you can here a loud knock from the right bank, then will die. I had 80psi when i was spraying so i don't know what went wrong. The only thing i could thing of is that i was running stock plugs gapped at .35. I was retarding ignition 2 degrees. I was running a .04? fuel jet and .043 nitrous jet so it wasn't even the full 85 shot. I don't know what went wrong. What can i do?

If I remember correctly didn't you have like over 160,000 miles on your car. It may not have been you but someone on here had N2o installed and hadn't hit it yet but they had super high miles on their car. Even if the car seems to be in good running condition that is still too many miles. The rings would be too worn to hold the pressure as well as numerous other things that need to be checked internally.

dude that really blows! sorry to hear that. It really make me wonder about spraying now....

I am sure you can find a 3.4 engine complete from a junkyard for really cheap! get a low mileage 3.4 and spray it again!

The engine only had 68,000. I really don't feel like putting another 3.4 in there again.

I think the jets are wrong
always go with 1 range colder plugs just to be safe
Are you taking it to a shop for diagnosis?

I started to tear it down tonight. One plug was mashed and the rest were fine so it didn't detonate. From what i can tell a chunk of piston came loose or the rod broke. I should have it down to the block tomorrow night.

pistons are the weak point on our engine our rods are forged not sure about your situation am getting froged pitons made so i don't have to deal with that. i hate to hear that i just got in my new engine and i am going to start tearing it apart soon.

                    Holy Crap!

Ok. First... and most importantly... do you have a window switch?! I hope you do. Maybe for some reason, when you shifted into third, the rpms dropped?! I'm sorry to hear about your car. I hope things work out for you. If you decided swap engines, go with a 3.8...or even an LT1!!!

Either way, what's done, is done. Let's learn from our bad experiences and prevent them from happening agian. Takes James advice, and get the car diagnoised to see exactly what went wrong, and work from there.

                    Good luck!

                    Joe :(

ps: nitrous users PLEASE use colder plugs.

sorry to hear about that man.
for some reason it sounds like a broken rod, but they are forged, maybe it had some big stress on it and broke, but you wont know till it's torn down. BTW, take lots o pictures, and I mean LOTS!

Can you take pictures of the tear down?
I haven't seen the insides of a motor that has grenaded due to nitrous.
Mine is still in one piece :D
Once I take it apart I'll post lots of pictures

I have pics on my site of my piston that bit it.

I will bet one of the pistons lost a chunk. your story sounds VERY similar to mine, first time to juice and all. heh...
