  • Safety w/ Forged Pistons

I saw the post about the forged pistons for the 3.4l being 80 each. If thats true I would like to get a set.

My questions are what would be a reasonably safe shot on the forged pistons using the stock fuel system and all the safety features? The engine is sitting at 52k. (95 Bird m5)

Should I change the compression ratio to 10.5? How much would that change the price?
Would that put any strain on my stock fuel system if I'm running 93 octane?

Also can someone direct me towards some good n2o sites so i can study up?

with forged pistons you are pretty dern safe!
depends on what size shot you run if you should upgrade fuel system
100shot is really pushing our stock fuel we are told not to run more then 85 on stock motor
upgrade injectors and you should be ok

How much would it be per injector? What would I need for 100-120? 24#? 30#?

So would this setup (roughly) be safe?

      forged pistons 10.5 cr
      100-120 TNT kit
      upgraded injectors
all the safety goodies (i.e. window switch, WOT switch, bottle warmer, pressure safety valve, i know theres more but they slip my mind)

      What about Ignition?

With larger shots I know timing needs to be retarded...

Again, any sites that can help me with n2o and the 3.4?

you don't need that big of injectors 19lbs should be fine(stock 3.8 injectors)

that is a good compression would not go much higher unless you want to run racing gas lol

fuel pressure saftey switch is a must as far as ignition msd dis-4

careful with bigger injectors, thats how 12second blew his motor, he put bigger injectors in when his ecm wasn't programed for it. He ran a 120 dry shot for a long time I hear, but as soon as he got bigger injectors, by by went his motor. Like its been said the only safe way to run nos is if you have the cash to replace the motor when it blows. I'm not to sure about 3.4's with bigger injectors but I know it's not a good Idea with 3.8's unless you have your ecm reprogramed. But definetly more safe with forged Pistons. If you have the kit set up right you can run n2o all day. :D

Do you need bigger injecters for a wet setup. Cause I was wandering is I did forged pistons and rods. And uped my compression to 10 whatever not sure how it is written. Would i need new injectors for a wet setup to push 125 to 150

You must realize the cost of the pistons are cheap but then the whole engine will be apart, that is a lot of labor (unless you are building it yourself). If you do pistons then the rest might as well be done too. Now you may ask what else?
Everything, stronger crank, pistons, valves, springs, cam, block prepped, maybe heads ringed, head work, intake work yada yada yada yada.
If you went that route then new fuel system time :D
What is the highest level with the stock fuel system? Dry I'd stay at 85, wet 100. You said bone stock fuel system.
Compression ratio is typically changed with pistons, sure head work can slightly change it but pistons are the main thing.
As for more info, do a search in this site. I suggested a book by 'Joe Petit' Do the search for that name.
If you have a wet kit then stock injectors are fine. The injectors do not supply the extra fuel, the fuel solenoid (usually connected to the stock fuel rail on mild applications) would take care of that.
I ran the 120 on stock timing. I did however run 1 range colder plugs and minimum of 93 octane plus nos octane booster w/ nitromethane. The combo of these two slowed the burn process which helped with the stock timing.
Bigger injectors need to have the computer reprogrammed for it, hence my engine dying :(
