• Mods before NOS? (basic questions)

Well I've recently become interested in getting NOS mainly becaues it's relativley cheap. What I'm wondering is what everyone would say the minimum for mods "should" be before you decide to go with NOS. I have every free ram air mod I can find w/ a K&N. I also plan on getting new exhaust. But thats about it cause I just won't be able to make enough this summer and once I'm in college there's not gonna be any more mods, or few and inbetween. I know I don't have to have anything but what would be a good idea?

A few other things. I found that I should get that book from barnes and noble. Does it tell you ALL of the dangers with NOS? Also should I go wet or dry? I'm leaning more towards safety but is wet more expensive? Is the ZEX kit actually safer or is it a marketing ploy? Are there any online sources that I could check out before I buy that book? Sorry about all the questions but I want to know everything before I decide. Thanks

I would recommend intake and a catback exhaust at the very min. I would get copper plugs and do an overall tune up.

Do you know what the difference between wet and dry is? NOS Kit #5175 is a dry kit. It will just spray nitrous into your intake. It will increase your fuel pressure and use the existing fuel system. With a wet kit it will spray nitrous and fuel into the intake.

I would recommend doing all the reading about systems before you make your choice.

Good luck!

Dude you're getting NAWWZZZZ!!! some people will argue against my comment that you can never fully prepare an engine for nitrous but the more reinforcements you have under the hood, the better luck you'll have with it. I've seen people invest quite a bit building up the engine for a shot of nitrous and they still end up frying the engine. Poor luck I guess. I'm in favor for nitrous, but I've always felt it is a 50/50 gamble. When I can set aside enough money for a rebuild after setting everything up, then I'll consider nitrous.

OK first thing, NOS is a brand, nitrous is the stuff you are looking to get.
Minimum stuff to do.... nothing at all w/ add on mods (technically)
The kits are designed to work w/ the stock fuel/ ignition systems in all the vehicles.
Ways to improve the system:
Exhaust: start w/ cat back, high flow cat, then headers (or whatever order your budget can handle).
Now you can get all that extra air out but what about getting it in??
Intkae: lid, cold air, free mods etc
Dangers of nitrous: grenade engine, melt a hole through a piston, hole in the block, basically engine go boom :(
Our intake manifolds are designed for dry kits, wet really shouldn't be used. But there are some who do (including me soon).
If you plan on staying under 85 hp then go with dry, anything over that then I suggest wet.
Most common kits used
NOS
NX
TNT
Do a search for all the safety things that can be done for nitrous kits

no offense but .. he will be getting a lot of extra air in since he is goin to be utilizing nitrous..
Focus more on exhaust upgrades Raven .. also..
tune up..
replace gas filter...<-- most commonly overlooked.
lighten your car up...gears... etc..

true, headers, high flow cat, and cat back shoud be at the top of your list. maybe head and cam later to better utilize the no2. and adj. fpr will keep her from running lean. lsd will keep you from going through tires as fast unless you use the no2 only at higher speeds. a ta rear gear cover will keep your rear end cooler and help it last longer with all the tq/hp going back there.

So it may be for the better if I install my headers and ram air hood before the N20 ?

Do you need headers, no
Will the set up preform better w/ full exhaust and intake yes.
Can you hold out on the nitrous or do you want it now?
