    Subject: window switch part #8956

Will the window switch (part number 8956) need to be modified any to work
    with the V6 F-body (3.8L) engine? Thanks.

    Sir
Yes, the 8956 does need to be modified to a two cylinder to work with distributorless F body V-6 engines.

    THANK YOU

    MSD TECH.

Well that basically helped me out none. How on earth do you set it to a TWO cylinder!?!?! I replied and asked how. I'll update when I get the reply.

Got my reply from MSD. Aparently it's gonna cost a little bit of money to get it to work.

My reply to the above email:
      To: Joe LaPille
Subject: RE: window switch part #8956

How do I set it to a two cylinder?

      --------MSD reply---------

      Dear Sir,

You will have to purchase the PN 8956 RPM Switch, and then RPM Switch will have to be converted to a 2 cylinder application in order to fit your application. The RPM Switch will have to be shipped to us for the conversion and there will be an additional charge of $35.00 for the conversion.

      Thanks,
      MSD Tech

No, I don't know a damn thing about nitrous ... but listen here:
They might be thinking of the fact that you have 3 coils for 6 cyls, or 6 coils for 6 cyl or whatever, and their assuming that you don't have an actual tach signal. But you do have an ACTUAL tach wire, that runs as a normal 6 cyl tach wire does, as far as I know, as I've got it connected to my Harlan Lite and soon my Drag'n Tach. So you should be able to use this for the window switch, in 6 cyl mode, without all those mods.
        Just my thoughts,
        -Rob

I know that I have a tach wire. Actually there's a couple tach wires, but past experiences have indicated that the MSD units do not work well with the factory GM ignitions. That's why you need to spend another $80 on CIUs to make the DIS-4 work. Besides, what's the worst that could happen? I send it to them, then they send it back to me and it doesn't work, then I send it back?

                Hey Mike,
per chance, is your buddy's Mallory switch still working fine? About to install one, so a big red flag would be nice if you need to throw it ;)

It doesn't have anything to do with the numbers of coils. On the ls1 cars, you have to cut a loop or two and go to 4 cylinder mode. It has to do with the square wave signal going in being I think a 5volt square wave. Whereas the switch needs 14 swuare or something. Don't try to do it yourself, just spend the $35 to get it done by the people who know. I am debating going to MAllory, I hear also you don't have to send it off.
