    whats up fellow camaroians
i have a question about my nos 5175 kit going into my 1996 3800 series 2 v6. i have done the install all the way <about 10 hours along with many calls to the nos people> well since my mass air flow sensor is mounted right on the intake i had to tap into it, but when i was taping in i wanted to make sure that no metal went into the engine so i took off the whole airbox out and had to yank out the screen from the intake. now heres the question. i cant get the intake screen back into it because it fell apart..... is that going to cause any big problems? i tried to be careful with the install but thats the only thing that im worried about. if anyone knows about it let me know.

    Thanxs

I have my screen out. Although I have heard it is different on 95-97 3.8's. 12secondv6 claims it made his car alot slower with the screen out and using nitrous. It made my 98 car idle a bit rough. Other than that I didnt notice anything. But like I said, I have heard 95-97 v6's having problems with the screen out.

      He summed it up above.
It seems that the 98's+ have no problem w/o the screen due to the angle of the throttle body and intkake.
Mine is a 1997. Our v6's have a bend in the intake manifold to the throttle body.
My tb screen eventually disintegrated due to lots of nitrous and all the extreme temperature drop.
When it was kinda falling apart I had problems off the line (or really when I hit it the first time then after a bit it would work fine).
It would seem to just plain bog and no nitrous would flow.
      So I ditched the screen.
I tried it again and the nitrous just plain would not work.
I went to the pontiac dealer and bought a new one (actually 2, 1 for a spare) put it in and I was juicing again!!!!!
      I really can't explain it.
The flow of the air on the 95-97 3.8's with the bend seem to need the screen on a dry kit.
Something to do with the flow and the bend.
I have not heard of any 98+ 3.8 w/ any problems I had when I had no screen in.

So the nitrous causes the screen to break up? And get sucked into the motor? That sounds kinda bad...

My first thought is take it out just to keep screen fragments out of the engine.

But then is it going to eat the maf wire instead?

Maybe if the nozzle is further away, it's a little easier on whatever is in the intake path?

my roomate has a '96 Camaro with the angled throttle body and we took his MAF screen out and it increased his performance?
          is it just a fluke?

            Well, nitrous is extremely cold.
I've juiced sooooo many bottles through my engine.
The thin metal screen eventually became brittle.
            I am an extreme case.
            I can use a complete 10 pound bottle in a 3 hour trip :D
