  • Bottle blew.. thought I was gonna die!

So I'm driving down the road, my pressure guage is reading 900psi. I find that kinda odd as I've had the bottle heater on for somewhere near 10 minutes.... POP! Instantly the entire car is full of a big nitrous cloud. I can't see where I'm going, how fast I'm going. Nothing but white... I quickly realize what's happening, so I slam on the brakes, and attempt to pull to the side of the road. Keep in mind I can't see anything at all, not even as far as the steering wheel- absolutely nothing but white. When I come to a stop, I open the door and the cloud clears. Headlights behind me.. I see a line of stopped cars and realize I've stopped in the middle of the road! Pull the car to the side of the road and let it vent out. After I calm down a bit I drove the rest of the way home (less than a mile).

I'm pretty upset with the whole situation. I just put the safety popoff cap on today, and had my bottle filled this afternoon. I'm pretty sure the cap was faulty. At the same time I would think that the bottle pressure would rise a bit faster with the heater on. It was right around 900 when I turned it on... it rose to about 925 shortly after, then I sprayed a couple times and purged some.. it was reading near 900 when it happened. I had felt the top of the bottle a couple minutes before, and it was just slightly above ambient temperature. There's no way that bottle made it to 3000psi. Anyway... that's how my night went. Other than that, the nitrous is working out great... I love it.... when it's not blowing out into my car!

hey how are you spraying with the 5 spd? are you spraying in first gear and what safety equipment do you have? I can't figure out how to hold the go button down and shift at the same time and want to know before I hook it all up.

have a proffesial install i MSD window rpm switch. That way it will come on at say 3000 rpms and cut off right before you would need to shift that way if you miss a shift it doesnt go boom. and then after the switch it will be back in 3000 rpms and it will kick back in

I can spray in first gear but I haven't yet. I have an MSD window switch, but if you're going to get a window switch I wouldn't recommend MSD. Right now my window switch doesn't work. I have to send it to MSD and pay the $35 for them to convert it to a two cylinder application in order for it to work with the stock ignition. Not spraying in first until that happens. As for the go-button, mine is a WOT switch under the gas pedal. I have it positioned so that I can be at WOT and not have the switch on, but if I press a little bit harder the switch flips. Other safety equipment is two FPSS's, one before and one after the fuel solenoid, and I HAD a safety popoff cap and a blowdown tube that I hadn't hooked up yet... figures.

                well DUH!!!!!!
thats what the blow down tube is for! so the nitrous goes OUTSIDE of the car!. That is the first thing that should be hooked up.

Yes, blow down tube would have let all the nitrous right out of the car if installed.

Did it burn your eyes when it burst? Because I've heard that Nitrous for vehicular applications has some type of sulfur in it!
