• msd dis-tach driver ?

anybody heard of this thing?? Would it maybe work with a window switch for spraying?:

"Ever wonder how you can install an aftermarket tachometer on a vehicle with no distributor and multiple coil packs? MSD has the answer with the new distributorless tach driver. The compact tach driver (PN 8913) wires in line on the coils 12-volt supply wire. It senses the current through this wire and converts this information to a 12-volt output signal that most aftermarket tachometers us as a trigger signal. The housing measures only 1.5x3 inches and is potted with a polyurethane compound for vibration and water protection. for more information, contack MSD Ignition, Dept. TR, 1490 Henry Brennan Dr. El Paso, TX 79936, (915) 857-5200"

I just read about it in the new Truckin' magazine June 2002 it's on page 50.

That's the link, but it shows no pics. And it doesn't even describe it. I checked jegs but they don't even have it listed in their catalog. The pic in the magazine I saw it in yesterday looks a lot like a window switch?? doubt that helps, I think it is a pretty new product and that's why there is no description on it.

I emailed MSD asking about their window switch and if it would work on a 2000 V6 Camaro and this is the reply I got. Has anybody tried this thing yet to see if it works?

------------------------------------------------
Sir
Yes, it will work so long as you use the MSD tach driver PN# 8913 to
give it the correct signal.

THANK YOU

MSD TECH.

There is a tach output port on the side of the DIS-4 that you can use also. I use it for my Aeromotive Fuel Pump controller, but from what I understand, it is also compatible with Autometer tachs and quite a few other things.

I asked them if it would work with the stock ignition. I don't have the DIS-4, and would rather not pay for it if I don't have to.

I've been back and forth so many times with the MSD techs about the window switch. They've told me that it needs to be converted to a 2 cylinder ($40), about 4 different wires to connect it to, and still no good. I've spent over $170 on this window switch so far, and I recently gave up and ordered a Harlan unit. It's alot cheaper ($50), works with the factory ignition without modification or extra parts, and doesn't require buying $20 sets of resistors to work.

I emailed that place about the harlan window switch, but they haven't responded yet. It does look like a much less expensive way to go. I'll probably order one.

Does anyone know how to get in touch with Harlan other than by email? I haven't gotten any responses to my emails and I am very anxious to get that window switch.

I just got an email back from Harlan. I had sent one begging to get the switch by this Friday so I can have it for my visit at the track on Saturday. He's overnighting the window switch so I can get it in time! Now that's service! Not sure if he's gonna charge me more for the shipping or not, but I mentioned in the email that I'd gladly pay for the overnight. Took a bit for the response, but I finally got it, and it was just the response I was looking for.

I still haven't heard anything back from Harlan. Are there any other brands of window switches besides MSD and Harlan I should be checking into? I did some searching and I really couldn't come up with anything else. Thanks for any info.
