  • Just got my Nos 5175 kit.

    Hi im a new member, I just got my car about 3 1/2 weeks ago, so far I put a wisper lid and the RK sport muffler kit on it. I just got my nos 5175 kit today from jegs, im excited about getting it done. I have searched the forum for my basic questions but, can anyone give me some installation tips to make my job easier? One thing im curious about is where the heck do I run the wires through so I can get it into the ashtray? do I hafta take off the dash ect. thanks in advance its much appreciated.

    I ran mine though the hole that was made for my system.

    I think i remember someone saying that there is a hole in the fire wall on the passenger side up under the glove box assembly.

      OK as for running the wires from engine bay to passenger compartment, there are 2 places:
      1) on the passenger side just underneath the computer there is a rubber grommet. I've had wires going through there before but I ran into problems where water would come into the passenger side compartment. I used huge amounts of silicone to seal it off but it never worked.
      2) On the drivers side, pull the carpet back by the gas and brake pedal. There should be 2-3 small holes that you can shove wires through. The wires enter the engine compartment just under the brake booster.
      Mine is wired up using the #2 suggestion
      Dash removal is not required.
      Tips:
      1) Before you juice remove the nitrous line, have someone hold it, hit the button, this will allow the nitrous to spray through the line and it will blow out any crap that could have gone straight into your engine if you had it hooked up to the rubber grommet like most of us do.
      2) Install fpss before you juice
      3) ngk tr6's gapped at 0.035 only!!
      4) Stick with the 85 hp shot, you can see mid 13's once you have a good suspension, intake and exhaust.\
      5) lt1's bone stock can be smoked!!

        I have a whisper lid and a rksport muffler back I didnt have the extra money at the time to get a full catback but I am sure I will add that later. I have one more question

        In the kit there is this thing that looks kind of like a thermostat? but its not listed anywhere in the manual? It has a black rubberlike top and a silver bottom with a screw type electrical connection on both sides, I have no clue what this is or where it goes? On the packaging it is in between the blowdown tube and that oval blue thing I believe it's the nitrous regulator?

          Also in the installation instructions it shows a 3.4 engine so its not exactly the same as mine.. and at one part it shows a rubber hose going into a "typical vacuum ported fuel pressure regulator" could this be the part im talking about?

              This sounds like the fpss. There is a thin 90-degree tube with two different style ends on it, one end goes on the schrader valve. The fpss goes on the other end of the 90-degreee tube. It will measure your fuel pressure. If there is enough, it will let current flow between the two electrical contacts. If not enough fuel pressure it cuts off the electricity, cutting off the 2nd nitrous solenoid.

                This is a part already on your car. The schrader valve and fpss are going to be on the passenger side. The existing fuel pressure regulator is on the driver's side. Way in the back, on the end of one of the fuel pipes. It's a royal pain to reach.

                This will be tied into the vacuum tee (the one with the barbed ends) that is also coming off the big blue thing between the solenoids. Apparently this part of the setup allows a little bit of the nitrous pressure to be applied to the fuel pressure regulator, to boost your fuel pressure.

                That's why it's between the first and second solenoids. The first solenoid will let some of the nitrous pressure hit the fuel regulator. Then if the fuel pressure comes up like it's supposed to, the fpss will let the second solenoid open up, and the nitrous will flow on into the intake.

                  What you described does sound like the fpss.
                  Yes the instruction book says for a 3.4 but it works quite well on our 3.8's :D
