  • Please help me out!!!! Zex Troubles

    well i just bought a zex kit for the honda so i could hook it up on my v6 3.8 firebird a4. well i hooked it up, purdged it, then i was sitting at the drag strip and armed it, nitrous started spraying so i was like what the heck and gave it full throttle. Now my motor is making all these weird noises, the service engine soon light is flashing, the engine has a miss, and i tested the coil packs, they are all good. then i changed the spark plugs, 4 out of 6 the end that goes into the motor was competely gone and burnt black. i replaced all spark plugs and it still has the miss and funny noises as well as the motor shaking.....any suggestions on the problem?

    did you spray below 3,000 rpm! [img]graemlins/omg.gif[/img]

    thats not good!

    im not sure what happened but im sure someone on here can help you out.

      yeah i sprayed from about 1500rpm's it just started spraying without me pushing the button to the wot switch, just by arming the kit it started spraying....also with the zex kit i had to run the vacum hoses, i didnt know if that could have anything to do with the problems. i reconnected the stock stuff but it didnt help any.....

        you might want to check the wiring. it sounds like the solenoids are opening when you flip the arming switch. if thats tha case the wiring is messed up. test it with the bottle closed and the car off.

          He melted his plugs and replaced them and it still runs like *** . He needs to do a compression test on each cylinder to see if he maybe cracked his pistons and a leakdown test to see if he burned his exhaust valve seals.

            Well how honest do you want me to be?
            Is your car still under warrenty?
            If yes, remove all the evidence of a nitrous system installed on the car. Switch back to stock factory spark plugs (did you have ngk tr6's in there?)
            You had nitrous spraying at 1500 rpm's and the car was not wot?
            And you found 4 out of 6 spark plug electrodes gone?
            The car ran very lean. The electrodes burned off and are either in the combustion chamber or if you are lucky have blown out.
            You changed the plugs and the car still runs rough, misfires etc.
            If the check engine light blinks then that is a multiple misfire.
            I hate to be honest with you but you might need a new engine.
            A compression test would answer that right away.
            Again, what I would do in your situation is remove all evidence of a nitrous system, switch to stock plugs, make the car as stock as possible then tow it into the dealer and hopefully you are under warrenty. Just say you were driving along and the car started running like crap so you pulled over. You also would want to run the car for a while with the new plugs in so they show some wear (burn pattern).

              12secondv6, his warranty is beyond gone anyway lol. We told him NOT to spray unless you were above 3K (he wouldn't get a window switch). It's hard for us to hook his stuff up when we're 2hrs away but he and his buddies hooked it up. They obviously hooked up the wiring wrong if the arming switch caused it to spray instead of the pushbutton switch AFTER the system was armed.

              I concur that his exhaust seals are probably melted, cracked a piston or two and possibly melted the rings.

              New engine = Great idea :D
              Shame too b/c it ran 9.3x's all day long N/A on his motor. I doubt he'll get another motor as strong as that one.

                What WOT switch were you using? Were you using the one that is inside the little pink Zex box? I posted a while ago that Zexs WOT switch never seemed to work out for me. Did you test the arming switch before? I mean had you ever armed it before? Where did you connect the TPS wire? Maybe you connected it to the wrong wire.

                Change plugs and reset the PCM!!! If the SES light comes on again ( unless it is a misfire from changing plugs ) then you need to take it to a shop. When you say "weird noises" what do you mean?

                  okay today i thougth that the MAF could have a problem so i unplugged the MAF to see if it would change the condition of the motor any,and it didnt change it at all, do you think that could be my problem? that my MAF sensor has just gone bad?.....also when driving without it hooked up the service engine soon light doesnt flash, and it flashes with it pluged up, it jsut stays on with it not hooked up but doesnt flash. any ideas?

                    first thing I'd do is get a hold of a scanner and read the code.. then go from there. Actron makes a great one.. costs about $150. Good investment.

                      hey, i got a zex kit too, and i dunno how to fix your prob. but did your car have a tps? cuz i know some 99's (mine) has that servo motor controlling the throttle so i couldnt get the venom 400 or the venom kit, and my mechanic didnt think that the zex would work, but he called them and they said to hook it up to the wire that gets the voltage at full throttle or somethin like that (hey, im not a mechanic or engineer) but anyways maybe, if you have the same setup as me, you might have hooked to the wrong wire, causing the premature spray, if not, then well.. i tried.

                          Man, if you pulled the plugs out and the electrodes were gone, that for one thing is very bad... running too lean causes the combustion chamber temperatures to run really high and melt things...like piston rings. Definitely go for the compression test on all the cylinders. Be sure to say a quick prayer before you do...

                              now ill never get juice, what if something like this happens to me? i'll **** my pants, and cry like a baby trying to figure out how to get a new engine. I hope you solve the problem bowdown2v6power.
