• Nitrous related problems?

I was just curious to see what problems people have had on their cars that they believe were caused mostly from nitrous. We all know it's not good for your engine and it's kinda hard to tell whats from what but what problems have people had? How many people have grenaded? I know 12sec basically shattered his internals of his engine and 94 3.4 grenaded the first time he hit the switch. Are those the only two from this board? Just trying to get an idea of the likelyhood of problems I'll encounter. Also about how many members of this board are juiced?

I haven't had any problems personally but then again mine is not of the convential setup. I do not use a window switch or WOT switch. I basically spray as needed.

The only reason I grenaded my engine is because I put mismatched injectors into my bird.
The problem with nitrous is running lean.
Over time you can smoke a stock tranny, nitrous ='s lots of torque, those stock bands can only hold so much.

Is there a way to make sure you run rich without getting a fuel pressure regulator? Also would a shift kit replace enough to be sufficiant?

I've got a FPSS and will be ordering a tranny cooler when I order the fitting for the FPSS. Think this will be decent to try prevent anything major? Is there any way to tell if your running to lean when you spray? I've got a air/fuel ratio gauge but it just lights green when it's floored, probably won't tell me if I'm not rich enough for the N2O

I have always tuned by my air/ fuel ratio guage.
Green is good :D
Also if you get a scanner that can monitor millivolts of the o2 sensors I am told that 0.900 is great.
As for a shift kit, that is just there to make the tranny shift firmer and more positive.

If you run a wet kit there is risk of a backfire. I ran through 2 bottles, 1 bottle testing with 35, 50, 75, and 100 shots. The 2nd bottle was all 100 shots and had no problems at all. Got on the dyno and the extra load from the drums caused a backfire because I sprayed at 3000 and should have cut it on at 3500. On the street or the track 3000 works great. On the backfire I toasted my injectors, maf sensor, tps sensor, and intake plumbing. Plus a few burn marks from the massive fireball that shot out.

Motorwise and performance wise I love the nitrous. The 3.8 loves the juice and reacts very well to it. Like James said it's much safer to have something to monitor the car with, especially your timing/knock and O2 readings.

Here are some pics of my nitrous backfire:
