• Dissapointing Day at the Track.

This might sound like it should go in Drag Racing, but I'll get to the nitrous part soon enough. First, the track is struck by lightning and flooded in the same week, so some sensors are out, they managed to replace most of them, except, you guessed it (maybe not) the 60ft. Couldnt be something useless like 1000ft. Well, I got my NA down to 16.2 car ran awesome launch has been perfected for my street tires. I got a .540 R/T too, but no timeslip because, you guessed it, more problems with the track. Then I run the nitrous. First time, lost traction in second and third 15.5. Second time, ran ok, but I backed it off a little for the traction problems - 15.2. Then came trouble. Third time i am going down in second, and in high RPMS the nitrous cuts out. Almost feels like surging but bottle is full and not frozen. Every time, nitrous cuts out at higher rpms. Finally I quit as to not damage my car. I think maybe its the FPSS shutting it down? What else would cause a high RPM shut down? Any ideas on where to start? Car runs fine still. No sign of detonation or any other problems, just felt like someone was in the trunk kinking the line. Help me out if anyone has had these problems! Thanks.

BTW - This has never happened before, just the 3rd run at the track. I haven't ran it again yet, but I might.

sounds like a fuel pressure prob. sounds like the fuel pressure regulator cut off your nitrous : /

Exactly what I was thinking. So, I will put a new fuel filter in and see what happens. Then a new pump if needed. BTW - I took the solenoids apart. Sparkly Fresh inside. Ok - now if I need a new fuel pump, how much does a stock v6 pump run? How much for the v8 pump? Is it any better? How much for a Aftermarket pump? Thanks.

So, even with a poorly prepped track and spinning a bit off the line you knocked off 1 full second?

Yes, it sounds like the fpss is cutting fuel.
Before you dump a lot of cash at it you might just want to get a fuel psi guage and check your current fuel psi.
The fuel filter is the first step though
If you need to upgrade pumps then magnus has the walbro in tank 255 lph pump (which I will be purchasing very soon).

BTW, drag racing with nitrous is fine here

The walbro 255 intake runs something less than $150 from what I've seen. Good call replacing the fuel filter first...actually, I am suprised that isn't emphasized on here more. The first thing my mechanic asked me when he went to check out my n2o install was "did you replace your fuel filter?" And every time I ask him about something that may not be going right, it's "Did you replace your fuel filter?" So if anybody else is planning on spraying soon, replace the fuel filter.

Isn't it funny how problems develop and answer themselves. Well I hoppped in the car today and I heard weird noises. Drove it at wot and all speeds, it is the fuel pump buzzing etc. It sounds hideous. So I am replacing it today. Here's the deal, is the v8 pump any better? Where can I get the walbro pump?? Is it a direct fit? should I just go stock? Help ASAP! Thanks again!
[EDIT] - 12sec I lost a second time with the nitrous cutting out at 4000RPMS!!! Imagine if it worked!

Well, I don't think there is a v6 or v8 fuel pump, they are universal.
Magnus runs the walbro 255 in tank.
I plan on getting one.
Try that route

Well, you guys should get a good laugh at this one. Before buying anything, I decided to actually try and diagnose it for sure. I thought it was weird that it only made noise, but ran fine. So, I went to the back of the car and took the spare cover off (where I keep the bottle) The bottle was out, but... I left the blow down tube in, and it is a rubber hose (custom made by infernal) so it was loose and the slack caused it to rub the tire. I felt like a moron, but I got a good laugh at myself. lesson learned:Never, ever work on you car after a late night of drinking and very little sleep. So I put a new fuel filter in (my old one was squeeky clean) that wasn't it so I took all the nitrous solenoids off and upon inspection of the vacuum lines I found numerous problems. The hose was too long and was near the manifold, it got hot and was brittle and cracking, amongst other things. I replaced all of that.
UPDATE: I put it all back in and now It still does the same thing. Where do I go from here? Could my FPSS be bad? What should the normal fuel pressure be at? How about with the nitrous engaged? I am back to sqaure one here.
It cuts out at the same exact RPM in every gear!
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mine gets 40-44 at idle, goes to 48 at wot, with nitrous it goes to 55.

At idle I saw 32.5 psi fuel
On the bottle with nos kit 5175 my fuel psi jumped to 75 - 80.
You might not have enough fuel

My dad was saying that he's never seen a fuel pump go bad without actually making noise or whatever, hes never seen one just slowly drop pressure. Is it possible? I am thinking that my FPSS is clogged or something? I will hook up the fuel pressure gauage today and see what I can find. I might just put in the walbro because it will be essentially free, and a good upgrade for nitrous. Let me know what you think.
