Ok this may belong in drivetrain but I was split on where to put it... Feel free to move it... (The title is right down the middle) but heres the deal. I am on a 85 shot now and soon to be a 100 (hopefully) on day. I will be adding a LSD soon, my question is, would it be worth it to go any higher on my stock 3.23s while the car is apart? Or should I stick to 3.23s? I know if I go too high i will hit the limiter, but for a 100shot, what would be best? I figured this would be better in the nitrous section because I want people with nitrous and gearing experience to read it. Thanks!

I'm running 3.42's stock with an a4 (Y87). With my dry kit, I am only pulling 2.28 60's, so I could improve that with either gearing, a converter, or possibly going with a wet kit. I am still pulling hard in 3rd across the line at close to 100mph so I like that. (I've upgraded to about 110 shot, but haven't run it at the track yet, so this is based on the 85 shot.)
I think 12sec is running 3.23's and he has good top end and gets out of the hole pretty good, but he has a converter too... And is running a wet kit. So he can get by with the 3.23's.
How well do you get out of the hole now? 3.42's or 3.73's will help that. (well, I guess that's hard to say since you currently have the open rear.)
3.73's will get you into some calibration problems, especially in your '97 since there is no hypertech for you. They could affect your top end, maybe not, that's debatable. They are about 15% different than 3.23's.
3.42's are about 5% lower geared than 3.23's. You can calibrate for these with a Y87 vin if you have an a4.
I forget if you have an m5 or a4, and I can't see your sig while I'm in the middle of replying... That's a factor too. I would say you could get by with 3.23's with an m5, and 3.42's with an a4, and avoid all the calibration issues. Even with the m5 you could still go 3.42 (but I don't know what kind of vin you need in that case).\'98 A4 Camaro v6->v8 conversion, and STS kit next
v6: 13.6 Powerdyne, 13.2 150 shot, 13.8 120 shot, 14.3 85 shot, 15.7 stock
v8(na): 12.18@113, 392rwhp
Moderator on www.mtfba.org and www.frrax.com (Road Race & Autocross)
Car pics, TN Region SCCA

Yeah I am pretty sure I will probably keep the 3.23s to avoid all the mess of having to recalibrate everythings to get it to work. What a pain in the anus. I do have an M5, so I would imagine that they will work ok. Just wondering since I was going to crack the case anyways..1997 Chevrolet Camaro v6 - 13.8@104MPH

Post shall stay here :D
What gear is perfect???
Well, lemme throw a couple things at ya first and then you decide:
Nitrous ='s tons of torque and off the line acceleration
Higher (lower numerical) gears give off the line acceleration
Adding both of those together and traction becomes very difficult.
Also, when you change the gears to a higher than stock gear the speed limiter is lowered. The speed limiter cuts fuel, that is bad on a nitroused car.
I've had 308's n/a, 410's n/a, 342's n/a and nitroused, 323's n/a and nitroused.
At 105.5 mph trap speeds due to the speedo being off with 342's I found myself in overdrive which was hurting et's and mph's
Just with a gear change to 323's I upped the mph to 107.5's and et's stayed the same but now I spun to the same previous et's which were achived with dead hooking.
Sigh, initially I was top of drive but as I learned how to drive better agian I went into overdrive.
Now I run a taller tire to give me the false feeling of 308 gears. drag radials are 25.6 I think, et streets are 26.1. The taller tire now allows me to finish the 1/4 at the top of drive.
with 342's, stock converter, and drag radials I was pulling 1.731 60 foots on a dry kit
with 323's, yank converter, et streets and slipping tranny 1.630 60 foots on a wet kit
It is all a complex science. Finding the right gearing, shot level, tire height, final trap rpm,
etc.
Stay with the 323's and just add lsd.
See where it goes from there.Race car - gone but not forgotten - 1997 firebird V6

12Sec - Thanks for the run down, That helped a bunch. Will just keep the gears the same and play with the tire size for different ratios. I won't be juicing for a week because I am lending a friend my bottle. But after that, I need a clutch and I should be good to go and play with it.1997 Chevrolet Camaro v6 - 13.8@104MPH

First off, welcome! Secondly, LSD is limited slip differential. Our cars come with open or limited slip. Open, one tire will spin in a burnout, as the torque is not distributed to both tires. limited slip is like posi (only without clutches) and it sort of distributes the power to both wheels, making both push you off the line instead of one. Check the technical datebase for more, I'm sure there's something in there.www.fullthrottlev6.com THE SOURCE!

Nope, we beat people with nitrous bottles here :D
Welcome
You might want to look into nos or nx kits.
Try a search in here or just wander around and read up on old posts.
