  • 98 jet placement? Don't want to BLOW UP

    Well Guys,
I looked in the searches and couldn't find much. So I was wondering,(I dont have the kit yet, Ill let you guys know) but does anyone know where the best location for the jet is for a NOS dry kit? I was under the impression that because of the pressure that the nitrous is coming it should be entering STRAIGHT into the MAF screen. If I do stick it into the lid won't some of the nitrous puddle into the ribbed area between the lid and MAF? Causing a boom? I dont want to take any chances, perfect install is a must. Please let me know.
    Thanks
    Matt

The further from the maf sensor, the better. You'll get a better (more consistent) maf sensor reading and better fuel mixture, and the screen (if you have one) will last longer. I originally had mine pointed right at the screen, discharging about 6 inches from it, and my maf sensor readings were horrible and the car surged when spraying. When I moved it to the far side of the lid, it smoothed way out. It does take a little longer to hit, but this just helps make sure you've gotten the rpm's up anyway...

The nitrous will vaporize into a gas once the pressure is off (as it comes out of the nozzle). This is also what causes the cooling effect. So you won't have any puddles to deal with. Also the nitrous itself won't blow up, so you're fine there too. A wet kit is more likely to backfire since fuel is being introduced. It would be hard to get a dry kit to backfire (although 12secV6 says he has done it...).

I have pictures of where mine is on my website (in the sig). Its not a 98+ but it will give you an idea of how far away I put it. It was 12secs recommendation to put it there.

OK, so, you have a 98 with a lid correct?
        Dry kit also?
You want to mount the nozzle (s) as far away as possible from the throttle body to utilize the cooling effect and also allow the maf to get the correct readings.
I've seen some ls1 owners mount them on either side of their lid. Drilled in on each side for a dual spray effect mounted as close to the front of the air lid as possible.
        John is completely correct.
The only thing I want to add is with a dry kit there is no possibility of puddling. The puddling effect occurs only with a wet kit. You do not have to worry about this.
Yeah, weird, I did get backfires. Well, I think that is what they were. When I had a destroyed maf screen and then removed it my car would make these 'backfire' noises and explosions. I then, on the third run, had an explosion and ripped a 1-2 inch hole in the rubber elbow of my slp cold air kit and blew out my iat sensor. Weird huh?
As soon as I put the screen back in no more problems. On 98+ cars they tend not to have this problem.

AZ has a great pic for 97 and older cars.
