• Newbie and have ?

First of all I wanna say Hi, I have been reading on this board for quite some time and now have decided to join.
OK well lets just get to the car stuff.

I have a 2001 sunset orange firebird with flowmaster 80 series exhaust and thats it.

I am thinking N20 but am probaly going to just run a 75 or 100 shot.
Question is should I get a kit made for a V6 or just get a reg. NOS kit off ebay or something???
I got stuff...<br /><br /> <a href=\"http://community.webshots.com/user/mksucum\" target=\"_blank\">http://community.webshots.com/user/mksucum</a>

just go and buy the NOS 1571 or something. Go wet, and you can hold 100 ok. If you want to go any higher, get forged internals.

Welcome to the board, everyone will try to help you!

The NOS brand kit mentioned above is NOS #5175. This is a DRY setup, which means it sprays before the MAF sensor and the extra fuel required is introduced by the injectors. This setup can also be converted to WET, which means the fuel will spray with the nitrous through the nozzle, which will be placed after the MAF sensor. However, if you're planning on a wet system, it's easiest to get a kit that is already wet and doesn't need additional parts. The NX brand seems to be performing well. Another popular brand is TNT(James and Magnus both carry this setup).

I am also thinking about journeying into the world of N2O. I found a kit by Nitrous Works and am wondering if anybody knows more about it? I found it at RPMoutlet. I am looking for preferably a wet kit but don't really know the advantages to dry or wet. I'm looking for something which isn't too expensive hopefully. I was thinking about shooting about a 50 shot or so. I was told that my engine shouldn't be too tweaked because it can't handle too much and I was also told that it was too old. It's got 53k miles on it. Any help or suggestions? Thanx

Advantages and disadvantages can be found all over this section using a search, it's a great tool. The main difference is that with a dry kit, your fuel injectors have to put out all the extra fuel needed for more power. With the wet kit, the fuel is added with the nitrous and sprayed through a nozzle, and your injectors have a normal work-load, not much if any added strain.

56K miles isn't alot, my car is a '00 and has over 40K. It is all about how well maintained and taken care of your engine has been. 50 shot should be NO problem for your car, that is as long as nothing is already messed up. With something wrong, and thena dding more strain via nitrous, a problem that went unnoticed may become more of a problem.

You don't have to specificaly get a 5175 kit although it is probably easier. Kits in general are universal differing mainly in bottle size and length of main nitrous line. I'm not even sure exactly what my kit was but it works just the same. Jets are also different but considering they're $5 a pop I don't take that into the equation. Wet vs Dry has been discussed here a million times, basically dries weak point is stock fuel delivery and wets weak point is nitrous backfires (our intakes don't like having fuel in them) and can be very nasty from what I hear. Not having enough fuel is your worst enemy when it comes to nitrous, take every precaution you can to make sure enough fuel is supplied. Our fuel system is supposed to be good up to 100 shot dry but not every car is the same and 100 might be right at the limit, I would say 85 is a safer shot (I've still had a problem with it). Welcome to the board and welcome to the nitrous board. If you ever have any questions at all it's probably been covered (search) or just ask, between 12secondV6 and his nitrous minions anything that comes up will quickly be answered.

Thanx guys, i appreciate all the help you your giving me. (I'm glad I became a member to this site. It's helped alot).
As far as the kits go, what is a good kit which isn't too hard to install? Should I get the bottle jacket, the gauges and all that other mumbo jumbo stuff? That means more money which is what I don't want to spend too much of, then again I don't want to just buy the cheapest stuff out there and end up blowing my car apart. I would like to install the kit myself, but if it's too hard then i'd rather have someone w/ experience do it. the wet and dry issue still has me debating however. I like the idea of wet because it won't work my fuel management equipment too hard but the backfire thing has me wondering. I know I'm asking alot of questions but I don't want to cut any corners when it comes to this stuff because this is a big step for me. Thanx Again

If you want ease of installation, dry is the way to go, (I think that is why it was made). For a 50 shot, your car will work just fine. A wet kit is recommended for bigger shots though because there is a limit of what your fuel system can handle. It CAN handle an 85 shot just fine, and probably around the 100s with no problem. So wet vs dry all depends on how big of a shot..
I bought a 5175 kit off of a member here for $400 and is was almost new. It installed very easily and works great for me. NX has great wet kits and so does TNT, but they are harder to install.
I would recommend a dry kit until you learn how it all works and everything. Thats what was recommended to me and I can't complain a bit.
Too be honest, you don't need any gauges or blankets or warmers to get you started.
Plan on buying:
1 Nitrous kit ($$$ depends on what kit)
6 NGK TR6 SPark Plugs ($12 I heard)
1 Set of Taylor Spiro Pro wires or similar product ($45-$50)
Thats all you NEED to have a working kit that is fairly reliable. (Make sure your kit has a Fuel Pressure Safety Switch or buy one.)
Fuel Pressure Gauge - Can help but is PRICEY!
Air/Fuel Gauge - Always a +
Nitrous Gauge - I would say recommended, wish I had one...
Anything else is a plus, but I say, buy it as you see a need.
You have the right attitude of not wanting to waste money but NOT cutting corners. You will do well on the n2o...
Sorry so long!

Another question for the board. I looked around some and found a few different systems. The first is the NOS 5175(seems to be the popular one here) kit which runs about $520. Next is the NOS 07001($370), but will that work for me or is it for carb'ed cars? One more which I found was the Nitrous Works NWW 13080 kit, that runs about $470. I found the nitrous kit at http://www.rpmoutlet.com/nworks.htm
What do you guys think about the kits. You guys run like an 85 shot but the kit says it's for 100-150 hp. Whats up with that? (Thats not my biggest concern however) I want to run about a 50 shot to start and build from there someday. Thanks once again for the help.

first of all I want to say thanks for the welcome and all the information.

I think I am going with the NOS 5175 (try and find a used one) so I can the bottle heater, purge kit and the 3 guages someone mentioned above. I can see it now, "i open the door for a date and when I climb in my drivers side, she asked what are all those guage pod thingies by your head? I reply push the DONT push the red button! You know women so she accidently leans over for a "closer" look and ooooooops I pushed it sorry. AZ pretty much covered it, everything else is extra. Personally I would recommend the A/F gauge, it should let you know if your not running rich and no fuel = bad (I wasn't looking at it the time I went lean  freakin women). A fuel pressure gauge is alot of $$$$ if you want one with an isolator or run fuel inside the car (unsafe) or put it outside. Nitrous gauge would be nice but doesn't help performance or safety at all. A purge is a HoeMagnet as I've heard it put on here. I would install the kit yourself, I didn't find it very difficult, just time consuming (wiring was a pain). I don't think a wet kit would be all that much more work, tapping the TB couldn't be fun. If money is a concern I would find a used kit, only thing to worry about is condition of solenoids. The NOS kits have two so a double failure is unlikely. Line condition is something else to be concerned about, mine had a few kinks in it but nothing bad.

01orangebird: I'm not sure about posting the pic but you can put the link of your car in your signature.
