• Got a wet kit... what shot should i run?

I just got a wet kit and i was wondering what i should run to be safe, yet still feel it when i spray. Im getting a fuel pump next week ... im thinkin 50 shot nos and 60 shot fuel cuz its better rich than lean.... not hp wise but motor exploding wise... Any suggestions Help a nitrous newbie out :D
Thanx ,

you don't run 2 diff shots you just use diff pills that allow the right mixture run a 50 shot then if that goes good i would run a 85 shot and stay with a 85 shot on a 3.4 make sure your car is in perfect running order no weak links and keep maint. up on it

Before you go any farther you need to read up and learn more.
Go to Barnes and Noble or any book store and get How to Install and Use Nitrous Oxide Injection Systems for Maximum Horsepower By Joe Petit.

thanks for the help i have installed it and i have installed nitrous before but we did it on a fully forged olds 455 and he didnt care if it hurt it or not and sprays 200 shot..... i think i was correct to assume that my stock 3.4 motor cant take that, i just want to make sure that i dont hurt it. I dont care how much performance i get as long as its a little kick and its semi-safe.. I hadn't ever heard of the pill thing so thanks for that ill check it out... I need a book like how to run nitrous on a 3.4 camaro that isnt forged 8-)...... Maybe i'll start with both at 50 shot and move to a 60 shot, and i will try to find those pills too.
Thanks again Guys,
NA guy goin spray, its a sad day (but then again) ;)

dude you need to learn about nitrous before you spray

there is NOT two differnt shots
on a wet kit there are small pills for each one for fuel one for nitrous together they decided what shot your running by the ratio of the pills start out with a 50 shot then work up to a 85 shot max but you really need to learn alot more before you try and spray

Just making a comment and not flaming you:

You installed a kit before but you said you are a nitrous newbie?
Did you just watch the install on the forged motor olds 455?

He didn't care if it hurt it or not? Don't use this person as your nitrous info source. Just the forged internals alone were not cheap and a 200 hp shot is quite high. There is a lot of knowledge and experience needed to play with a shot as high as 200.

In this post pills were talked about, I just need to clarify something.
With nitrous there are no pills but jets. These adjust how much fuel and/or nitrous (depending on wet or dry kit) is used on the kit

Pills are quite often used with ignition systems: window switchs, burn out max rpm, launch rpm etc

Again, not flaming you just asking a question

Also, hang around here, there is a lot of info flying around that you can learn. Do not be afraid to ask any question at all.
There is NO stupid question except the one not asked :D

I have a question. I am affraid to get a nitrous kit because I have 5 speed and I don't want to miss a shift at the track and blow the engine. If the kit comes with a rpm window switch and is WOT activated, then will it be safe? I know wet kits are better for hp, but for simplicity on a stock V6 wouldn't a dry NOS kit be best?

i did watch the install and he doesnt care because he has money and this is his second engine... i am new to using nitrous correctly and safely is what i am saying... and by shot.... 50 shot jet is what the shops around here call them so i have been correct with my shot calling? shot = jet and i use different jets to tune my a/f ratio to make it more rich than lean because lean means kablamo! i think i am understanding it right but i was saying should i run a bigger fuel jet than the nitrous jet to keep it a lil bit rich.... Thanks for not flaming i am just trying to keep it safe and use my resources around me to keep it safe....er
Thanks again

Put it on the dyno and wideband the car on the bottle.
You can adjust fuel jets accordingly

Sort of. You're right, the shot is controlled by the jet size. Shot usually refers to how many extra HP you are getting, so a 50 shot would be 50 more HP. On the dry NOS 5175, a jet size of 47 is an 85 HP shot. But a 50 shot is not a 50 jet.

Any system, wet or dry, should probably run a little on the rich side.

As far as matching the jets, on a wet system, the jet pairs should already take that into account, so it would probably not help you to go even richer.

HP starts to fall off if you run too rich, so the jets recommended by the kit manufacturer are probably best. You might be able to tweak them a bit for your particular engine combo, if you have access to a dyno and/or other tuning aids like autotap or an egt gauge.
