  • Getting Zex kit.... probably

I am sooner or later going to be getting the zex kit off ebay for the camaro. I am going to run the wimpy 55 hp shot cause i want it to be as safe as possible.

My big question: Has anyone installed it. I have searched and found some info but im still a bit confused. They have an online install guide that i have read several times over and i was wondering this...

In the instructions it says that you have to connect the management unit to the vaccum fitting on the engine's fuel pressure regulator via a specific hose. Another hose goes to a fitting on the intake manifold plenum. I have no idea where these two things are on my car. Can anyone help me out? Will the hose simply slide on to these fittings which are ready and waiting? That doesnt make much sense to me. Can anyone take pictures of these fittings so i know where they are?

see this picture for more details:

also, which wire is it that you run the white wire (throttle wire) to? it refers to it as the "output voltage lead" from the tps.

    pics would be wonderful

    any help appreciated!

You really want the ZEX kit?
I'm not a fan of it.
I think we have one or two members who have it and possibly one of them were not happy with it.

As for the stock fuel pressure and where to put the zex into a vaccum line:

Pop your hood, on the black plastic piece just above the radiator there should be a sticker. It will show you a diagram of emissions and vaccum set up.
It will show you exactly where the stock fuel pressure regulator is.

If that is no help then go to the passenger side of the engine.
Take a look behind the alternator and you will see the metal fuel rail. You will see a plastic black cap on the fuel rail.
Follow this line back towards the firewall.
Use a flashlight and you will see this odd thing w/ rubber lines coming out of it.
That is the stock fuel pressure regulator.

Are you choosing this kit for cost?

i was choosing this kit for a combination of cost as well as simplicity. all i need out of it is a 50 shot. i dont want to push my car that hard. from the looks of things this kit comes with everything i need to have a relatively safe and reliable 50 shot. how bad have the reviews been on zex? from everyone ive talked has seemed to like it.

also, that tells me where the fuel pressure regulator is, but what about that hose going to the intake, wheres that fitting?

oh and by the way... so you have to splice into a line for the fuel vaccum and intake manifold, or is there something to slide the hoses right on to?

Simplicity and cost, go with NOS Kit 5175, trust me.

The intake manifold connection, hmmmmm, I'm drawing a blank cause no access to the bird.
Take a look on the sticker under the hood and tell me if that helps.

I'm not 100% familiar with this kit but I have not heard any great things about it.

              I'm just being honest.
For a low hp and very easy install I would suggest the nos kit 5175
Sure there is wet kits (nx and tnt) but then you can run into puddling of fuel in the intake manifold.
Read up on the nos kit and let me know what you think

relative to how in the zex kit you just have to plug in to that little control box, how much harder is it to put in the nos kit yourself? i dunno much at all about solenoids and such... i guess ill read up and get back to you

Well, how easy is it for me?
I couldn't do it to save my life.
I can not wire up anything.
If you are good with wiring then it shouldn't be overly difficult.
Always use teflon paste, not tape for fittings
