• car died during/after a race on the bottle?

I was racing a gorgeous cherry red 3rd gen z28 right before I came home tonight. I was spraying the 100 shot, NX wet kit. Really good races both times we ran (I barely had him on both runs). Keep in mind my bottle had been sitting in my car for a few hours, and was mostly cold, NGK TR6 plugs gapped .035". Towards the end of the last run, I felt some wierd hesitation, almost a sputter. My car died while I was still going about 75mph. I pulled onto a side street, and it crancked right back up, no hesitation after starting it or getting on it just a bit after that. Anyone esle had this happen? Any guesses what it might have been before I get a chance to pull the plugs an see what they say?

Sorry for the long post.

You say your bottle was cold. If it were really cold you wouldnt have been getting the right pressure causing you to spray not enough nitrous and run really rich. Maybe the extra fuel is what caused your car to bogg down and stall.

When I ran my 100 shot I intentionally ran it rich. On occasion the extra fuel would choke the car off at the end of a pass if I pressed the clutch in and let it coast. I usually just threw her in 4th and let the clutch out (while still rolling of course) and she fired right back up. Probably just too much fuel if it chokes AFTER you let off, but you said you felt the hesitation "towards the end" of the run... were you still spraying when the hesitation started?

Hmmmm, me thinks it went Waaaaaaay rich!!!
That would be why it sputtered and stalled.

This has NEVER happened to me though.

We know it is not a vaccum connection because the car would not idle after.

Check the plugs, look for a dark color possibly.

Take a look in the exhaust for a black residue.

Do a once over on everything.

Do you have a botle psi guage?
Do you have a bottle warmer?

Alright, I have pretty much determined it went WAY too rich towards the end of the run, and might have right at emptied the bottle too. Bad combo. Waiting for the car too cool off as I type before I change the plugs. I hooked up my pressure gauge earlier that night, but forgot to use teflon to seal it, took it off and it wasn't on when this happened. Better way too rich than too lean I guess! The "once over" begins soon. I'll update when I find out for sure.

Well, the plugs don't look bad at all. Not even as dark as they usually are after a month or so of spraying on them....I just rememebred that my last tank of gas I only got 90 octane gas, sicne this town is limited to that and a few stores have 92...Could it have been some detonation or knock causing it to retard my timing or something?

90 and 92 huh>? just wanted to say Im glad it seems like its just flooding. But out here we have 87-89-91 octane. so sad, no 92-93. and its 2.17 a gallon for low!

I think you went WAY rich.
As for the octane, stay with 93 octane for spraying only!

I have checked/replaced all my plugs, no problems on the old ones but replaced anyway...We have NO 93 octane ANYWHERE around here, it doesn't exist. I am deliberting running a can of octane booster, but don't want one that will mess up my solenoids. Everything else is fine as far as I can see. NA is runs like a champ still, no knocks pings or anything, pulls as hard as it has in the last 6 months.

What octane booster are you running?
I ran into a problem with my TNT fuel solenoid.
I had TNT check it out and they determined that from using my NOS octane booster the plunger inside was swelling and causing the solenoid to either partially open, partially stick and so on.

Per TNT tech's, do NOT use any octane booster with nitrous.

I no longer use octane booster
