  • stock, can the LT1 or LS1 run more nitrous safely?

b/c i plan to get a 97 or 98, based on whichever can run more nitrous with stock internals.....

i hear the LT1 is stronger overall.

my buddys LS1 that is running a high 10 second quarter mile on stock internals has been spraying a 150 wet shot for about a year now with no major problems, LS1s are solid motors, so are Lt1s

v8s can indeed run more nitrous than v6s stock.
they have 2 more cylinders to share the nitrous with. they say 20-25 hp nitrous per cylinder on stock aplications.

Ive seen LS1s blow head gaskets, and sling rods on even a 100 shot. But Ive never seen a LT1 blow or have any problems with anything less then a 200 shot.

These observations are of course taking into account correct safety equipment and correct use.

a guy here in utah has a LT1 camaro running 200 shot. But its also high elevation here at 4,400 ft. which does affect the amount of nitrous we can safely run.

ya well you can blow something up at 50 hp if its not set up right.

i heard that the lt1 is a steel block and the ls1 is aluminum or something.........im not sure but i heard thats why the lt1 is supposedly stronger.

I know 2 guys runing 300 on LT1 BASED motors.

I have seen guys run 150 on stock LS1's and T1's, 200 is the line were I say build the bottom end first. LT1 is a cast iron block LS1 is aluminum, you will blow a piston before you blow the block

It all depends on the built quality of the engines.

Tuning is also a big factor too!

Honestly a small 50 shot could damage either one of those engines.

As much as a 150 shot could possibly be sprayed safely.

Anything over that and I find it iffy to beleive

I'd pick my motor not based solely on this- you'll be using the spray for a very small amount of the time, i'd pick the engine that performs best all around.

The LS1 is a superior motor by far. Much lighter, much more horsepower and potential. The '98 can take 150 shot dry no problems. Above this go wet, maybe 175 wet is ok. Plenty of people do 200 shots, but a progressive controller is a good idea and you're pushing it if you don't have a direct port system. Very prone to puddling on the wet shots and uneven cylinder distribution.

If you mess up your LS1 on a 100 shot you need to be taken out and shot- just spray into the intake, how hard is that to get right?

                        I wouldn't go a bit over 150wet on a stock LT1.

Now, if you're looking for the ultimate in HP, the LT1's iron block is stronger, but we're talking when your over 600rwhp. If you're at this point, you're talking more than stock internals, so just get an LS1 iron block.

                          LS1 + 150 + shot = safe???
                          Ever heard of valve float?
Springs are kinda weak from the factory
                          Personally I wouldn't go over 125 on an LS1

We ran a NX kit on our 2000 Vette all last summer. I would say about 2 dozen runs on a 150 shot. The output shaft of the transmission finally twisted like a shoelace, but the engine is fine.

Edit: I will be putting a ND dual stage kit on my 3.4L V6 when the rebuild is finished with the Ross pistons and Manley rods. At that time, I plan on putting a 150 shot on it and moving up from there.
