• Found my problem after running the 120 shot

1. The maf screen got brittle and split into thirds, dislodged from the front of the tb, and wedged sideways up against the maf sensor.

2. The patch job I did where I swiss-cheesed through the side of the tb last year doing my port job, got brittle and crumbled out, leaving a small hole in the top of the tb for air to get in past the maf sensor.

And I have never liked the angled tb on the '98 anyway, hooking back up to the center mounted lid...

sooooo.....

I'm in the middle of a little re-engineering. I am cutting away the front 1/3 of the tb, at an angle to get a straighter shot to the lid, and eliminating the portion that has the hole in it. Had to cut a bunch of ridges, risers, etc off the outside too, so I could get a good flat surface to hook tubing up to.

This means I'm eliminating the maf sensor provision too though. So I will replumb it in the new tubing I'm putting in. (somehow...)

Shopping for connectors/reducers/pipes/etc tomorrow at lunch time.

I guess one of the disadvantages of dry nitrous is the wear on the maf screen.... :D

Crap, I forgot to mention that.
After 1-2 years of spraying the dry kit the maf screen did disintegrate.
I made a post about it ages ago.

I'm not following you on your plans but when you are doing it take pic's :D

I'm shooting a few as I go. Next I'll have to figure out how to set 'em up on webshots or somewhere like that.

You have a '97, so you should have the same angled tb, but no lid. Look at how you little room there is between the tb and radiator, and how the intake hose would have to be to hit the opening of a lid...

Then, imagine having the hood off, and setting a guillotine up so it whacks off about a 1/3 of the tb. The blade being parallel to the front of the engine. So the new tb opening is now straight and level toward the front of the car. That's basically what I'm doing...

I remember your post about the screen... I was thinking I would be able to tell when it was about to go... Apparently not... Luckily it was still mostly together and it looks like none of if got past the throttle blade.

You know, I think what probably happened, is the screen started freezing over, and the vacuum pulled it up inside the tb.

Because it's not brittle, not like the jb-weld was. And it was broken and pulled up in there hard, split in three places, like it had been pushed up in there.

The material is so thin, it could freeze up easily, and once a section of it started freezing, the nitrous going through the remaining portion of it would freeze that portion even faster. The middle would freeze up first, since it would be the furthest from any heat from the tb walls...

Its done! It works!!

The front 1/3 of the tb is gone. The heck with cutting the post out and all that porting. Just cut that part of the tb off... :D

But then you have to figure out what to do with the maf sensor. I installed mine into the pvc pipe that replaced all that other stuff that used to be there.

Got my miglia's and the Goodyear tires on tonight too. Man those things are heavy. My stock 16's with 235/55's weighed in at 42.5 and 43 lbs each. The 18x9's with 245/40 are 54.5 and 55 lbs each. That's 12 lbs, x 4. Rotating mass. That can't be good for the track. Good thing these are just for autocross...

So, back to the topic, we'll see how the nitrous works with this new setup. Only bad thing is I'm not running a maf screen now, so the idle is a little rough.

And I'll have to re-autotap it, and see how the maf sensor is behaving in the new environment. Whether it's more lean or more rich than it was in the tb.

(I took a bunch of pics, but my smart media card reader is not recognizing the card...) :(

When you get a chance post the pic's

I could not spray my bird w/o a screen.
It virtually died when I hit the nitrous on the dry kit.

It looks like I'll be yanking my kenne bell boost a pump off the bird very shortly.
No damage or anything. Works GREAT with a stock fuel pump. It does not like my granatelli 255 lph fuel pump. Think you might be interested?
