• Nitrous for a 99 V6 Camaro

Ok, I think that I want to go with the NOS #5175. That will work right? What all do I need extra besides whats included in that kit. I know about the bottle heater, but do I really need that. I also just installed A-pillar gauges. One is a Air/fuel ratio and the other is a Nitrous Pressure gauge. Will that kit include the line I need to run to that gauge or do I need to buy one. And one more thing, I was told by a speed shop by where I live and they said that I shouldn't install nitrous if I haven't ever before because I'll blow my engine. They want $300 to install it. Sorry that was so long.

hey 99red,
i would reccomend buying a bottle heater now, ive had my kit for a year, and im just now buying a heater, it will make a big difference if you wanna use it and its at night and only 50 degrees out, and you wont blow your engine, as long as your not ignorant, i wouldnt run overt a 85 shot to start.

i would run the 85 shot that came with the kit, installing it is fairly simple, they just want your 300$...depending on your appilcation use, you might want to check into a bottle opener too

There's a lot of good info in this forum, on this particular kit, what's needed, etc. You'll have to search to find most of it.

Make sure your kit has a fuel pressure safety switch, some people did not get one with theirs (I think that was a year or so ago, haven't heard of anybody shorted on the fpss recently).

James (12sec) will say don't run a nitrous line to your pillar gauge unless you are willing to risk a face full of nitrous. I mounted my gauge on the bottle, and just check it from time to time (like in the staging lanes between runs).

The air/fuel gauge is a good start. Later you may want something that will log readings if you start playing with different jets. So you are not trying to analyze instantaneous results on a gauge while going down the track at 100mph!

I also added a bottle heater after a year. If it's warm outside, and you are waiting quite a bit between runs, you can get by without it. If you are making back to back runs, the bottle will cool off quickly and will lose pressure, so your shot will drop off. You can always add it later, to get up and running quicker.

As far as if you've ever installed nitrous before, well heck, how would anybody ever install nitrous the first time if they could never install it...

Just depends on your mechanical ability and confidence. The kit looks complicated when you first get it, but it's not bad.

Tonight I posted a bunch of pictures of my install over on my webshots page that may help you somewhat.

Oh yeah, don't forget teflon paste (not tape) for the fittings.

And ngk tr6 plugs gapped at .035 would be a good idea. (yeah, yeah, James - you guys finally converted me...)
