  • Nitrous and 3.42 gears

12Secv6, correct me if im wrong, on one of ur posts somwhere u said u only had 3.23 gears because of nitrous. Why is that, would it be not safe to spray with 3.42's? cause i plan on getting them.

I passed the end of the 1/4 in overdrive with 3:42 gears and a 25.4 inch tall tire

I went to a 3:23 gear and 25.4 inch tall tire and eventually ended up passing the end of the 1/4 in overdrive again

I now run 3:23 gears and a 26.1 tall tire which gives me a 3:08 gear to the ground technically. I pass the 1/4 top of drive currently.

Once I start spraying a 150 shot I'll most likely be back in overdrive :(

Each time I got quicker I hit new best mph's but I passed the 1/4 in overdrive. That slowed me down. Top of drive has more pull. Overdrive is a dead gear :(

Um, the car must upshift when max rpm in that particular gear is reached.
If the upshift is not allowed that would be bad

I was a little bothered by that statment as well. Was going to ask why myself.

I looked it up and I don't see why you are having this problem.
You should be good (assuming you rev to 5,500 RPM) for 118 MPH in that combo. Your trap speed is at least 10 MPH slower than that!!!

With 3.23 gearing and a 26.10 inch tire you are good for 128 MPH at 5,500 RPM. 20 MPH faster than your best ET MPH. No reason why you should be needing that gear?!?

With a 26.10" tire, you should be safe running 3.73 gears and never come out of third. I think you may have a tranny issue. Should not be hitting overdrive during a drag race.

Well, I know my tranny is not broken.

            I know my car.
Can I supply some formula to prove it, nope.

Have I proved it to myself with countless runs down the 1/4, yes.

I speak from real world experience (track time)

Well its good that you think you know your specific car, but something is wrong.

How many LS1's go 12.4 or faster with a higher MPH and do so on 3.42's, 3.73's??? With no problems what-so-ever.

Your case isn't normal. And it shouldn't be that way. We oughta start picking brains to figure out what the deal is. Your setup is hurting your ET's. You could easily hit low 12's with more gear.

You want me to run MORE gear when I can't even hook with 3:23's?
                  I'm sticking with the 3:23's
N/A is also doing quite fine
And the bird purrs away on the highway at 2500 rpm's at 87 mph and sees over 30 mpg :D

But, I am open for suggestions
