• smoking NOS 5175 solenoids

I was showing a buddy how my n2o kit works, so I turned on the first solenoid( fuel press. control) and left it on for about 5 minutes.

While I was going through everything with him, he pointed out that smoke was pouring out from my hood.

I shut everything off and inspected the system. the solenoid was very hot and after it cooled, it would no longer operate.

What are your thoughts on this? Should I look for a rebuild kit for the solenoid or just get a new one? Has this ever happened to anyone before?

I think it overheated because i didn't have any super cold n2o streaming through it. Moral of the story: don't be like me kids. I feel like tim taylor, I show what not to do.

NOS noids suck, i burned one out on a friends car, for being on for 30 seconds, without any nitrous in the lines.

Buy a new noid... :(

Or upgrade the noid to a NX one (lifetime warranty)

They get hot... they are pretty much just coils.
The nitrous cools them.
No nitrous=hot solenoid.

FWIW, NX will not warranty a solenoid that has been abused. Which means that if you leave it "on" for 5 minutes, they will see the burn marks on the inside and tell you to go scratch.

yea, you are supposed to have them open for more than 30seconds(I think, might be shorter than 30sec). I remember reading a warning like that on NX wesbsite.
