my friend called a performance shop today about the CO2 kits that NX makes. after talking to the guy for a few minuted he mentioned he rigged up a CO2 set-up that ran just like a nitrous set-up. he said he could just buy the NOS kit for his car and use CO2 instead of nitrous and get good results, just not as good as with nitrous. said a 85 shot of CO2 would come close to a 50 shot of N2O. he also said that it wouldnt be as harmful to the engine. he mentioned he had this set-up on his honda civic (i know, i know, import bla bla bla) and his gains were great. just thought i could get some feed back from the nitrous junkys. would you consider doing this? have you done this? what were the gains or what could i really expect? this is very interestig to me.

quote:
hahahaha, CO2 isn't going to combust in your engine, buddy. Its used for its cooling properties only

ummm, nitrous is used for cooling properties also... or didnt you know  . the other reason why nitrous works is because of the oxygen molecules (N2O) in the formula. the reason why i thought it was even plausable is because colder air is more dense with oxygen (i know, duh right). just seemed like it would work since even NX makes a CO2 kit to spray on intercoolers for forced induction. hell, tiago sprays CO2 on his air-to-air intercooler.2001 camaro v6 red convertable
ggotta go fast... so would you say CO2 holds no horsepower benifits through any means? i mean, ive seen and used the CO2 extinguishers on fires while around welders and it seems like all it did was smother the flame... same as blowing out a candle. all i want to know is how would you rig up a system to make the air going into the engine extremely cold using CO2.2001 camaro v6 red convertable
ggotta go fast... You could rig up some cooling lines from aluminum that you could coil in your intake tube, but you DON'T want the CO2 going into the engine. I think that using CO2 to cool the air, or better yet, rigging up cooling lines would be a lot of work for little gain.- Josh
If you have any questions or need installation pics/help, e-mail me: Viper98885@aol.com
\'93 Camaro Hardtop
\'01 Lincoln LS8 Sport
\'00 Yamaha YZF-R6
Full Throttle Performance

I just read a blurb about the new Lightning using the AC to cool the intake charge for up to 40 seconds I don't think the cooling would offset the complications and weight (as mentioned) of the setup. wow... CO2 instead of N2O, I REALLY hope he just made a goof.1995 Nissan Hardbody King cab XE, 5-speed, 4 banger
Looking for the right Camaro...

quote:
well if you want some mad horsepower just get you some oxygen and put that in there that will definalty leave you with little concerns lol

actually, there was a guy on cavalierperformance.com that did rig up an oxygen set-up. he went from a 16.5 in the 1/4 mi., to a 15.9. im guessin he was bone stock cuz he ended up fryin his #2 piston ring. but its been done. shouldnt joke on the stuff that sounds rediculous, it probably works and is successful. the oxygen set-up worked, until he fryed a ring... hummm, and nitrous could do the same thing, even worse. we all take risks when doing an upgrade like nitrous and forced induction, just as building a motor for nitro-methane, the risks are inevidable... period. the advantage we have and mr. blown engine runnin oxygen through his s#it dosent, is that the products we use have been trial tested... most the time. but hey, look at stefan, the pioneer pretty much in ati superchargers for our camaros and firebirds. then tiago, that just very recently produced a very impressive turbocharger kit, a kit that i can almost bet some had very real doubts would be as efficent as it is in producing horsepower numbers. its easy to down on something because its the road most traveled by people. its a way of denying the fact that something new might work, but your just too lazy to research and trial test to see if it does. the same type of people are what drove stefan to make an astounding supercharger kit, and i bet would be the same for tiago. lazy people who told them its a waste of time and theyre wasting their money. i guess its kind of funny that the same kind of people who drove stefan, our site administrator, to make this site are the same people keeping it vital and posting their opinions :( . what have we become?2001 camaro v6 red convertable
ggotta go fast... NO2 is an oxidizer and thus helps in the combustion process. CO2 will only dilute the combustion chamber thus decreasing the amount of oxygen and the amount of combustion.98 Bright Red Camaro
Too many mods to list....check my website

CO2 is nobody else noticing the O2 part? CO2 has oxygen in it too, and theoretically if you got a screen or something cut it the right size and put it on the opening for the free ram air you could spray THAT with CO2 and get some seriously cool air going into the engine...
the other thing is that regular air has CO2 in it, too. the only thing i can see CO2 doing is reducing the risk of detonation, provided you don't use too damn much.
just my $.02
