• Walbro question

When installing a Walbro intank fuel pump, I've noticed a lot of threads indicating that lower the fuel tank is a PITA (which I can easily believe). The popular recommendation now is to install an access panel, which sounds great if I can get a couple questions answered from those whom have done this:

    1) What did you use to cut the hole? Sawz-all, dremel tool?

    2) How deep do I cut?

    3) Whats underneath that I have to watch out for and where is it? (Fuel lines, pump electrics?)

    4) Is the pump access located dead center of the rear wheel "hump"?

    5) how big of a hole is needed? (So I know what size panel I need?

This is a pre-requisite to installing my NOS kit thats waiting on me...

    Thanks!

I used a angle grinder.....theres a site showing the measurements of where to cut...just search for "trap door". Be carfull where u cut cuz there are 3 fuel lines......the metal and pretty thin...just search on yahoo or on here and you shall find it.

I did a search on this site using multiple terms but came up short. If someone has a link to a site or a thread, please post.

I do not suggest doing this.

If you changed pumps all the time then maybe..... my shop just angled the tank down partially and did it in under 2 hrs

Yeah I spent an hour wrestling with the tank, to no avail. Just pull it halfway down and swap the pump. Don't cut.

I decided not to do it. I was hard, no doubt, but You only need to do it once.

              Cutting the hole aside...

Does everything I need to do an install (once I've gotten to the old pump) come with it when I purchase it?

In those pictures that AZ3.8Camaro recommended, did he remove that plastic housing that the factory pump was installed in?

Thanks again, this is good information!
