  • what to do?

I posted this in advance tecgh but got no replies. Maybe you guys can help.

I was going to get the slp 1.8 rocker arms but they seem a little pricy (but less work to install). So I was thinking about getting a cam but dont know which one to get, or what all I would need or should get with it or how much everything would cost. would it be worth it to spend the time on a cam?
Can you give me a mimimum amount of stuff I need with a general price to install a cam? I will install it my self so dont need install prices.
Also what would be a good cam for me?
im on a tight budget and dont want to spend alot of money.

I run a 99 camaro V6 A4 on a 75(going to 100 soon)shot of notrous. Other mods are FTRA K&N filter air silencer removed pacesetter headers with cat cut out pipe and flowmaster muffler. I also have 4.10 gears w/LSD and upgraded rear suspension parts.

Thanks for reading and help in advance

    I run a stock cam.

Unless you are specifically asking about a nitrous cam this may not belong here, BUT I'm not about to lock it.

I honestly do not know what is the best cam for a nitrous person, I'm still researching.

I'm VERY happy w/ my slp roller rockers, .2 quicker and 1-2 mph gain.

My cam pulls FRIGGIN HARD on nitrous and its not a Nitrous cam per-say. 216/216 Comp Extreme 4X4 112LS and 108 IC

I trapped 104 on the cam and just a measly 100 dry shot, not TNT. I had 8-900 PSI in the bottle because I don't have a warmer. This cam SCREAMS on the juice.

If you want it to be a "nitrous cam" then just order it with a 114 LS instead. (I have been told.)

Actually I think the "Blower performance cam" from Comp Cams, specifically made for our car would be a pretty nice nitrous cam.

You want an unusually long exhaust duration for a nitrous cam. Now, about your other question: SLP rockers vs. new cam.

By the time you get all the necessary gaskets, components, etc... the cam swap will be way more than $500 bucks. There is a crapload of labor involved with a cam swap too.

If you really want an easy way to increase your valvetrain activity, try the custom 1.9 ratio rockers from 3800performance. 1.9 rockers

I don't know of anyone else who has these, so try them out and tell us how they work.

if i get a cam would it better to get a cam with long exhaust duration even if i dont use the notrous too much. would i get better performance from a cam with a shoter exhaust duration for just street use?

Also AZ3.8CAMARO what is that 4X4 about?
How does it do with out nitrous?

4X4 is a lobe design designed for a high torque application. It means basically that it doesn't have a TOWERING lift like the Extreme Energy cams, but it ramps up a lot faster.
With a large duration however, it ramps really fast, and still has a much better lift than stock.
I think many people have problems on 3.8s from running to much lift.

It hauls *** on and off the bottle.
Gained 7 tenths so far NA from stock, and 6 tenths off nitrous (had a MAJOR traction problems.)
I think I am trapping the highest MPH (104) off of the 100 shot dry kit. Not positive though.

Plus it sounds bad as hell!

James/Malice - about the roller rockers..

James, I assume you are running the 1.8 SLP rockers? Did you try 1.6 RR (or any other ratio) before switching to the SLP ones?

Malice, you said try the 1.9's? Why would you do that instead of going to 1.7's or 1.6's?

A good friend who is the best mechanic I know said to go with 1.6 roller rockers and it would wake up the car quite a bit.. the Intense 1.9's are 100 bucks cheaper than the 1.6's or 1.7's (499).. Would you go with those over the I-Win's from 3800Performance (314.99)?

              Thanks guys!

                Stock was 1.6

I'm happy w/ 1.8's, seemed like .1-.2 et reduction and 2 mph gain.

Little but noisy bit that is ok.

Stock aren't roller rocker though.. Think I'm going to end up doing a nitrous/FI cam instead.. may get RR's, but don't know if the extra 400 bills is worth it when I do it.

                  Thanks ;)

If you want rollers go to the Intense site they have 1.6 and 1.7 adjustable roller rockers made by Harland Sharpe from what I hear they are da shiz..

Again, I'm happy with the slp roller rockers, but there is valvetrain noise
