Does nitrous really "F" up your engine?

Okay, I have been contemplating getting nitrous but my sweet loving wife is really really against it.
We have heard TOO many horror stories of how nitrous can kill your engine, melt pistons, and relly F up your whole car.
I am very cautious because this is HER car, and also because it is a daily driver. I don't have the money to be putting alot of work into rebuilding the engine if something does happen because we juiced it up.
Honestly, is nitrous safe or is it a ticking time bomb?

If the system is set up properly it's perfectly safe. You have to read up on it, on what you will need to get going. If it's not set up right then sure you can go BOOM!. However it is the cheapest way to go fast.

I Have been spraying for 19months now.. I am on my 34th bottle.. I have had 2 backfires that destroyed my intake Hose from the airbox to the tb.. The 1st backfire was on my 90 shot when I tried power shifting 4th gear.. My car didnt like that.. The second back fire was on saturday.. I got on it in 1st gear, hit second sprayed the 125 shot, went to hit 3rd and my foot slipped off the clutch.. I blew my second intake hose..

Is nitrous safe?? I purchased a complete Junk yard motor with 8k miles on it for 800.00.. I put the bottle on my junk yard motor at 10,000 miles.. I now have 44,000 miles on it.. I am getting no Blow by, The compression checks out good.. I change my plugs ever 2 months, Change my oil and fuel filter every month or so.. when the oil turn black then thats when I change it.. I have a 255lbhr fuel pump.. I want to be as safe as possible.. I would rather spend 40.00 bucks a month for oil, filter, and fuel filter then to blow my motor.. Spray is the Way!!

As long as you use a small shot you'll be fine. if you use a 75-85 then just dont do it often.

no matter how perfect the system is nitrous is not "perfectly safe" mishaps happen nitrous is not predicitable

Especially when you hit the rev limiter on accident while spraying. You'll blow a hole in your intake manifold as big as your fist, or you could crack your block.

You can get a window switch and a fuel pressure safty switch to make it even safer.

u dont really have to fear nitrous, just like everything respect it, and dont abuse it and it will treat ya good you'll have fun with it

If you get a n20 kit, get the entire kit and make sure it is done right. If you can't install it yourself, get someone with n20 experience to do it. Don't just get any old mechanic.

I didn't blow my engine untill I started tweaking my kit.

The biggest concern: stay away from the rev limiter. That is how I blew mine.

Make sure you get a blow down tube. trust me, if you've seen what can happen, you'd have one.

its a tube that attaches to the valve on the bottle. if the pressure from the bottle get s to high and explodes out, it goes out the blow down tube and out the car instead of inside. If My friend chris woulda had one, he'd still have his right four fingers. there like 12-13 dollars and take 25 seconds to install. even if you dont believe me, its still worth having.

If it is YOU WIFE's daily driver DO NOT spray it!

ANY amount of nitrous can destroy/ damage an engine.

If it is tuned correctly and installed correctly then the chance of damage is MUCH less.

Then adding ALL the safety devices reduce that chance of damage EVEN more.

No nitrous kit is 100% safe.

My suggestion, dont spray it

I put bigger injectors on a 120 dry kit and did not compensate w/ the puter and 1 month later, BOOM!

I don't believe this. If the pressure gets to high, the safety disk will rupture and spew nitrous in the car, the bottle won't explode unless the disk has been tampered with.

The blow down tube simply routes the escaping nitrous out of the car so you don't get really high and potentially suffocate.
