i was originally thinking about a turbo system for my car, but i may decide to go with a nitrous system after seeing the price differences. my question is, i would want to make the engine bulletproof to just about any shot of nitrous i would throw at it. what would i need to modify to allow the engine to withstand 100-150 shot of nitrous?

yea pistons and rods, along with a upgraded fuel system (i.e. walbro 255 fuel pump) are the main things. Maybe some ignition stuff would be smart to.

Well, 100 shot can be done on a stock bottem end.
Most likely a 125 shot can be done also.
To be safe:
Cryo prepped crankshaft
Pistons, slightly lower compression than stock
Connecting rods.
Valvetrain
255 LPH fuel pump
Piston rings
Port intake and heads
Direct port.
I have tried 125 wet multiple times and resulted in backfires.
I think the weak link of my system is the angle of the upper intake manifold.
It would be safe/ smart to do a direct port with anything over 125 shot.Race car - gone but not forgotten - 1997 firebird V6

i'm planning on starting with a dry system, NOS's kit for the 3.8l most likely. that's one of the only kits i've seen specifically for the 3.8l.
what other tuning would i have to do? i'm talking like fuel maps, etc. would i have to get something like the HP Tuners program?\'98 Camaro - SOLD
Best E/T: 15.489 @ 86.48 MPH
60\': 2.131
members.cardomain.com/skorpion317
1998 Saturn SL2
Official NJ Disturbance bracket racer

I don't know about HP Tuners yet.
I will be using them shortly.
I'll post results.
Timing would be left stock though

I blew up my stock engine on a 125 shot, but that was because I had a full manual setup and I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing.
I built a bulletproof bottom end and everything is great. I can bounce off the rev limiter, spray at low rpm....and the engine lives on happily. (I don't do these foolish things regularly, nor do I recomend doing them ever).
Check my sig link for a synopsis.1999 red camaro v6 M5: with a turbo
13.52@107.99
No, seriously: Who Farted?
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/600086

When you say low rpm... how low?
Because the engine needs some velocity for nitrous, too low a rpm can cause problems

THe kit instructions say never to spray below 3000rpm. I have sprayed at 2600 a couple of times.
And yes, I know that bouncing off of the rev limiter sucks. It sucked 1700 bucks right out of my wallet for a new engine.1999 red camaro v6 M5: with a turbo
13.52@107.99
No, seriously: Who Farted?
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/600086
