I recently bought a NOS nitrous system. i am new to the nitrous world and i was wondering how i would go about tuning my car to get the air fuel ratio correct so i dont blow my car up? i would like to avoid dyno tunning because the only shop near my house is just insane with thier pricing.

Nitrous tunning question

some nitrous systems arent exactly complete...a couple things that are NEEDED ...pressure gauge and bottle heater...if you cant keep that pressure up you're not going to be running to your full potential...and in my opinion (these are things i learned the hard way) ..anything above a 50 shot you're going to need to upgrade the fuel pump and make sure you're running at the correct pressure...also..one rule of thumb is that you retard the ignition timing 2 degrees for every 50 additional horses...most people just get away with retarding it 1 degree for every 50 horses and adding 1 (example..100 shot..retard the timing 3 degrees)..also...you're going to want to change your spark plugs...just run a standard copper plug...they should be gapped at .035 ...NGK plaugs are good...i've also had success with autolites dropped 1 heat range...hope this helps 12 SECOND DUAL STAGE DRY NITROUS POWERED 98 A4 V6 CAMARO
www.MySickCamaro.50megs.com
Best ET: 12.82@103
Best MPH: 104.7
Best 60\': 1.75 - Stock TC

quote:
Originally posted by Shodown:
1DV6 runs 12\'s...enough said.

NO COPPER PLUGS FOR NITROUS!
NGK TR6's gapped at 0.035.
Dyno is the smartest way, just pay it... which would you rather do, spend money on a dyno tune or money on a replacement engine?
I've played around with wideband dyno tuning and had great results.
I've messed around with millivolts from O2 sensors... but that means you gotta spray on the street and pay attention to a scanner.
Spraying nitrous + watching the scanner + not watching the road = VERY BAD things!Race car - gone but not forgotten - 1997 firebird V6

Get a Wide Band O2 sensor. Best way to keep from blowing it up.
I run 12.8-13.0 Air/Fuel Ratio N/A and 12.0-12.5 A/F ratio with Nitrous. You need tuning software (HPTuners.com) to adjust your N/A A/F ration and then different nozzles to get the Nitrous A/F ratio correct.
While testing, log your runs. Then go back and look at the log files. Don't try and watch them while driving, you will get yourself killed. Good luck.2001 Firebird 3.8L V6 M5,
It once had....
NX Nitrous Wet Kit, ZZP X-P Hot Cam,
3.42 LSD, Pacesetter Headers,
36# Injectors, HP Tuners
322 RWHP, 379 RWTQ
13.596 @ 102.56 w/100 shot

Good point about logging the files instead of watching while driving.

hp tuners does not make software for the 3.4L and no one has been able to get a 3.4L car tuned for anything besides a stock motor thus far (unless somebody slipped one by me)
in additon there is no mass air flow sensor on a 3.4L so a MAFT or a MAFT+ is out of the question as well-Aaron, AKA ATL2001
93 3.4L
www.ilfba.com
