Howdy...i just got my nitrous installed today, its a nitrous express wet kit, currently jetted at 50 hp. i was driving home today adn hit it on the interstate, but did not know that the bottle was not turned on. the engine surged alot (prolly from the pure fuel in the intake with no nitrous...) then quit once i let go of the button. but my question is, i have developed a quite alarming knocking sound from the motor, and was wondering if it is becasue im too lean or rich, or what please help, as im going back to the shop tomorrow. hopefully i wont have to uninstall the kit or hmelt a hole in the piston... thanks much!

could the knocking be a header leak? i got the minstalled about 5 months ago, and havent tightened the bolts, but there has been no noise from them before, i just thought it could have been the extra airflow as a result of the nitrous??

Well, if the bottle was not open... no nitrous flowed.

Since you have a wet kit... you only flowed fuel.

Well, you ran rich.... WAY rich... to the point of almost stalling.

As for the knocking..... DON'T drive the car.... have it towed to your shop who did the nitrous install.

How many miles?
Where is it coming from?
SES code?

its got about 66000 miles onit, its a 1999, and the knocking is coming from the engine compartment, but when i lift the hood to listen, i cant hear it as well, the motor drowns it out, i can only hear it when im inside the car and its running. i hear it all the time too, well at least since i got the nitrous put in, which was about 10 miles worth of driving, butit worries me nonetheless. im going tomorrow first thing to have it checked out.

and as for the code, ive had one for a while, but i havent gotten it looked at. i figured it was the 60,000 mile checkup only. it has been on since about then. thanks for the quick replies.

oh yeah, i also have the nozzle before the MAF screen, and its a wet kit...i dont think this presents a problem, but if it does, uh, what is it?

WET KITS SPRAY AFTER THE MAF SCREEN. NEVER BEFORE. DRY KITS SPRAT BEFORE THE MAF SCREEN.

you probally screwed your maf sensor.

nooooo...bad! :slap on wrist: haha i could be wrong...but everyone that i have talked to and everything i have read says NO WAY to spraying wet fuel across the MAF sensor...you can damage it in that way...thats text book stuff though...you'd think they would know that...maybe invest in a remote bottle opener that reacts to your arming switch ;) lol j/k man ...nozzle placement is critical...i cant even remember how many plugs i went through because of my dry nozzle being plugged in after the MAF...damn speed shop...now i take it to a real race shop...anyways...yeah...i'd check out your MAF and other sensors in the intake there...and like James said...get that car in ASAP...if they mounted it wrong...they should pay for the repair damnit

so then what i need here is a dry kit instead?? or how do it use a wet kit with a 1999 without drilling into the manifold or TB or anything else metal/mechanical? and the guy at the shop said without looking at it that they motor may be fried...buti still think its a plug that got toasted (i still have the stock ones, not the TR6's) so ill change them and see what happens. i hope thats the problem anyway... :(

and where can i get a new MAF sensor and how much with out going to the dealership??

i believe the only way you can use a wet kit without drilling into the tb/intake or any other metal is with NOS's NOSzle direct port system..drilling and tapping the intake isnt really all that hard though...i believe the MAF is a dealer thing...i think they're a couple hundred bucks so id see about one at a junk yard or something

i know i dont have the money for the direct port system, so maybe ill just do it through the intake...(drill through the manifold, right?) blah...either way this is a cruddy situation.

there was no smoke or funny smells or anything, so its not a head gasket im pretty sure, but is there still the chance that is a rod or a bearing journal??

either way, thanks for the replies, its really helpful

I don't wanna drill my TB either, I am looking into a way to relocate my MAF at the moment.

I have my nozzle before the maf.. I am spraying a 125 wet shot.. I have had it there for 2 years now and have been through 56 bottles.. Its still the same maf sensor that came on the the car when I bought it..

For the knocking noise.. How is your oil pressure?? also do you still have your maf screen in the TB?? You might have backfired and blew it to peices if you do.. Maybe you fouled out one of your sparkplugs??

Your maf is fine more then likely.. They are like 200.00 from the dealership I think..

i think your just listening too hard. If you cant hear it w/the hood open I wouldnt worry about it...all i can say to do is put some TR6's for the nitrous and give it hell!

id say that before you go spraying again, you do a little nitrous homework. you obvoiusly installed the kit yourself, and didnt bother to check to see if it went before or after the screen, so what else didnt you check?

i would check EVERYTHING you installed
