• Who has blown their motor?

Well all know that nitrous is never a 100% thing, so i was just wondering who has blown there motor before, what size shoot they were using, why did it blow, could it have been avioded(other than not using it), and how much damage was done and how much you had to pay to fix it.
I am just curious cause i want to throw on a baisc nitrous kit with like a 85 shot and just a dry set up...but she is my daily driver so i can't have her down for many days. I want to put the kit on, but i am a little bit of a woman when it comes to stuff that can hurt my car. Anyways, any words would be nice, thanks.

GO wet, it's safer. But I havn't blown my motor, no. The only instances I hear of are backfires causing the aircleaner or intake to blow off. Also, the manual tranny guys tend to screw things up more usually (I dunno why someone else could elaborate). Nitrous is perfectly safe as long as you don't go lean while juicing, hence while a wet shot is much safer (also makes more torque).

cuase if you miss a shift in a M5 you rev high

high rev + spray = bad
not only the PCM cuts fuel when you hit the rev limiter, so it also leans out too (high rpm + spray + lean = = motor)

In my old V6 2 years ago I spun some bearings.. Since then I have had an LT1 and LS1. Both take nitrous much better and more reliably.

the upper intake on the 3.8's is a very bad design for flowing fuel and its the main cause of the back fires. Most people say 3000 RPM is the lowest you can spray but after seeing it i would up that a little to 3500-4000.

Sigh, go DRY, it is safer.
I would NOT lie!

I blew a motor and it was MY fault ENTIRELY.

At one time when spraying the 120 dry shot I changed to bigger injectors (stock 19 to accel 24's) and I did NOT reprogram the puter and 1 month later destroeyed the engine.

It was MY fault for lack of tuning

I blew my motor last april. I sprayed a 125 dry shot. It blew at 5950rpm on the dyno. It chipped a piston. Now I spray a 100 dry with no problem.

^^when you were running the 125 shot...was your car stock?...no upgraded fuel pump, ignition or anything?...im curious because i've sprayed a 125 only a couple times and it never had a problem...but im wondering if its ok to do it more than just a couple times

Some say wet is safer, some say dry is safer. You're risking a chance with BOTH. However, I went with the wet system.

My personally opinion, on our cars under 100 hp level, dry is safer

I Had a walbro fuel pump, headers, exhaust, and a mild comp camshaft. I reviewed the autotap charts about 1000000 times. All the diagnostics were fine. The injectors were not close to max, and the A/F ratio was like 12.5:1. I think the piston had simply reached the edge of its operating capacity, so it failed. It is on my cardomain page if you want to look at it. Check my sig.

Obviously if all safety measures are explored and it is a good running engine already
