Okay so i asked who has blown their motor, and now i have another question. My car is a 2002 M5, and i have about 20k miles on it. All i have is a custom cold air intake, and a battery compacitor. How safe is running a 75 shot? I know nitrous is never 100% but, if i just run a nice dry 75 shot and don't play around with anything and put it on a window switch and stuff, i am pretty safe right? Just cause i don't have a couple grand to fix a blown motor with.

I've heard of a lot of people running 75 dry shots on a nearly stock motor with few or no complications, but I have no experiance with it so dont take my word for it.

^^yeah...defintely exhaust...and then you should be able to run a 75 shot pretty much stock...all i'd do is gap the plugs to .035 ...you should be fine everywhere else on a 75

do exhaust, lsd, gears, and other basic mods first. dont get ahead of yourself, take it slow and do it right.

I am not going to do LSD anytime soon, and i am definately never going to do gears! But why should i do exhaust before nitrous, how does running a new exhaust system make it any safer? And will the cut out make it just as safe?

its not so much about safety...it will give you more for what you paid for...you want a high flow system when using nitrous...same as with turbo or a supercharger...you can suck all that air and fuel in as fast as you want...but if you cant push it out...you're not going to get the performance that you expected or paid for...you need to get rid of as much restriction as possible...i've heard of people with nitrous and superchargers dropping 1 - 2 seconds JUST by opening up that exhaust...i suppose a cut out just before the cat would work fine...some people dont go this way because tracks do not allow them...the rule is that the exhaust must exit after the gas tank...which on our cars is back by the rear bumper...thats why i just hollowed my cat and got a 3" cat back exhaust

Yeah i know all the theory i am not a newbie to cars, just nitrous. That is why i asked why it would be safer, i know why i would do it for performance i was just making sure that it had nothing to do with the saftey of it. I don't want to do exhaust, at least not for a while, i am going to keep the car as sleeper and as stock sounding as possible for a good while, but in the mean time i want to be able to play with my friends. And i don't really go to the track, and none of my mods are to make my track time better, that is just a happy side effect.

I went through the same mental anguish two years ago that you are going through now. You really want nitrous, but you are scared to death that you might harm your daily driven car. That is why you have been asking so many questions lately.

MY opinion: just man-up and buy a kit. You will not regret it. Triple check that everything is hooked up properly, so you don't damage your engine.

I ran an 85 shot for a while with just a catback exhaust. It didn't hurt anything.

yeah, if you arent going for good track times i would tell you to just get the exhaust put on at the same time as the nitrous. even a full V8 take off would be better but i like the e-cutouts best.
