• Nitrous explosian

I have research and i got scaterd info but i would really like it is someone answered this question in particual.
I want to run a 55-75 dry shot, nothing big. I am going to have it perfesionally installed and NEVER tinker with it or try and change anything by myself. I am going to get all the safty stuff with it...WOT switch, FPSS, blowdown tube, purge helps, bottle heater...basically anything that i can do to make it safer and eliminate explosions. So my question that has been asked so many times is how likely is a explosian that is going to do damage to my car besides the intake, cause i really don't care about that, all i care about is the really expensive stuff. Please don't tell me how many times this has been discussed. And i would really like to hear from 12sec cause he tends to spit the brutal truth.

im sure James (12secondV6) will come along..but what do you mean by explosions? ...nitrous backfires?...they are nothing much to worry about with a dry kit...especially on that shot size and with a FPSS...the FPSS with shut the nitrous off before anything can REALLY go wrong...worst case is it will blow your intake off (not the manifolds..the plastic)...as far as detonation ..you can run everything totally stock on that shot size...basically...with those safety components...and using it correctly...no worries

So basically if i am not worried about my intake getting killed, nitrous with all of those safety things will not be able to hurt my car at all? If that is the answer than, i am going to get it.

Just make sure you wire the bottle heater into the ignition circuit instead of battery voltage. The difference is that when you turn your car off, the bottle heater is not on. A guy in a Maxima blow the rear half of his car off (and his garage door) because he wired the heater into the battery circuit (which is always hot) and the pressure grew until the bottle popped. I'll see if I can find the pics.

^^^yeah i heard about that..CRAZY..i heard he had it in the trunk and it blew apart the whole back end of his car...if you can find pics that would ROCK...thats where the blow down tube comes in handy lol...although most bottle heaters (like the one i have) are thermostatically controlled to keep the temp at 80 degrees..this keeps a full bottle around 900 psi..right where you want it (i personally like to get mine up to 1000 - 1100)...if the bottle pressure is too low...you cn run rich...which wont REALLY hurt your car at all...just make it slower...but you definitely want it connected to a "only hot while key on" wire...which means the wire only get electricity when the key is in the on, accessory, or ignition position...i cant say to anybody that they will NEVER have problems...cuz sh*t happens...if your pump fails or you get a sticky solenoid you could have problems...but in most cases...just get the safety options...run it correctly...have yuor car tuned and ready to go...and you should be worry free

Now earlier you said that "they are nothing much to worry about with a dry kit...especially on that shot size and with a FPSS" Does that mean that i have something to worry about if i use a wet kit? Is the wet more dangerous assuming that i run that low of a shot? So if it is wired right and everything is as it should, i won't get any damage like blowing a hole in my intake manifold with the set up that i discribed?

Well, see.... anything can happen with nitrous.

If one takes ALL precautions out there one would reduce the chance of a backfire/ explosion.

Also, doing some research on nitrous/ systems is also benificial.

I've posted a link somewhere in here to summit racing where you can buy a book by Joe Petit? I always spell his last name wrong. It is VERY benificial

from what i know wet kits are just worse with the backfires...our 3800s arent designed like the LS1s and some foreigns that hive intakes designed to work well with injecting wet fuel through them...on a smaller shot..you have less nitrous and fuel mixing together...so if anything WERE to go BOOM its not as bad...maybe just get your intake blown off or something...but i cant really speak for wet kits because i've never run one...if i do it will be direct port...i've had dry backfires on an 85 shot and nothing happened..the FPSS shuts it down...just stalls the car and you have to restart it...now if you're like James up there running a 125 shot...which is what i'll also be running my last time out and next season...the stronger the shot..the stronger the BOOM ...usually...someone not too long ago just blew a head gasket by trying to run a 150 wet shot...if i were you i'd just run a 75 dry shot for now...get used to nitrous...try it out...thats what i started with...then after some experience i ugraded my pump and movedon to a 85 - 100 shot...now i am increasing the injectors and tuning the PCM to run a 125 ...so just start simple...get used to it...get everything down like the back of your hand...and move on...it'll rock

When I finish my turbo kit, I am thinking of spraying a 100 wet shot on top of 10psi of boost.

Fuel+air+nitrous+compression=big powerful explosion.

If I get a nitrous backfire on that setup, I will probably be eating out of a straw the rest of my life. It will be cool to watch that heavy intake manifold launch into obrit, though.

Based on that picture, he must not have had a rupture disk. Had he had a rupture disk (I think they are $5), none of that would have happened. In the F-Body you need a rupture disk and you need to have it vented out of the car. Otherwise, if it does go and you are in the car, you will be breething very cold NO gas. Maybe cold enough to freeze your lungs (Don't quote me on that part). All the other safeties people are talking about are there to save your motor, the rupture disk and vent tube might save your life.
