• Window Switch Question unanswered...

I posted a question a while back in a window switch thread but it never got answered and everyone moved on to different things,

I searched on it but couldnt come up with the answer I wanted so here it is...

For everyone (including myself) who is afraid of having their tranny go out sooner than it has to, what RPMs should we set it at so that it stops spraying befor the shift point? I have the starting RPM set at 3500 due to James' suggestion, and ill work my way down as i get used to it and go no lower than 3000. but what RPM do our tranny's shift at? I would go out and do it now but there is no long stretch of land that i can go on....

I know that once you shift, the gears change and then you will be lowered back into the window again, but you could just get good at it and once you feel/see/notice the nitrous go off, you can disarm the master switch.... I would rather take advantage of my window switch and further the safety even more if possible. I assume that 2nd gear would be the most effective place to spray... and make it cut off before the RPM gets high enough to go to third.

I think that there are probably a few people with this same question but either didnt know how to ask or just decided to "just spray through shifts" like everyone else does, but I want to preserve my tranny as long as possible. it would be quite an expensive thing to replace/fix

Also, here is my window switch and relay, I have the window mosly figured out except for the orange wires, in the PDF i found online, it says that the one orange wire goes to a 12V source and the other orange wire goes to the Noids positive, then the noid gets grounded as usual, but I am thinking that the orange wires are supposed to go to the relay somehow, look at these picture i made, the window is exacly what i am looking at, and the relay picture is what the side of the relay shows...

hey man..sorry i cant really help too much with the wiring because i've never used a window switch...as far as the rpm range..i think the highest shift point is the 1 --> 2 shift ..its at 5900rpms ...so i would just set it from 3500 - 3900 ...and like you said...work your way down to 3000 from there...i think the 2 --> 3 shift is at 5700rpms

so should i set my start RPM to 3500 (and work lower as i go) and my Shutoff rpm at 5500? so that once i get done with 1st gear, i flip the switch and it takes off during second and cuts nitrous flow 200 rpms befor it shifts to third?

^i dont think it really matters what the top number is at on an auto ..i would just set the starting rpm at 3500 and just not flip the arming switch until you feel the car shift into 2nd

Why not spray first? You get most of your gains with nitrous in first gear. Wheel spin can be taken care of by drag radials. I would set the "start" at about 2800 and let it rip through the shifts an all. I never had problems with my V6 at 125+hp going straight through the shifts. My LS1 gets a little finnicky when I try to put 225 through the shifts

like i said, i want to preserve my entire car as long as possible, therefore, i dont want to spray through shifts because most likely ill end up using nitrous recreationally every now and then (no tracks anywhere near where i live)

so thanks but also everyone says never to spray below 3000, so im starting high, i just want to know when the window should shut off so that i can avoid spraying through a shift... i want it to kick on once i have fully entered 2nd gear, and stop before it shifts to third, then ill disarm it with the switch to prevent it from reentering during third gear if it want. this way, the nitrous will only flow once a gear has been completely selected and i think that will help out with wear and tear some.

If you're that worried about it, just get a hand held momentary switch. On/Off whenever you want.

that doesnt solve my issue, i might not know when its about to shift... i have a window switch and thats what im using, all i need to know is the RPM from 2-3, is it like 1DV6 said? "5700rpms?"

You said it yourself that your going to manually activate/deactivate it, why throw something else into the mix (window switch) to further complicate it. What can I say, I'm a big fan of K.I.S.S.

Ask yourself what happens to the RPM's during a shift...do they go above, or below the limits of the window switch?? No...So the switch isn't going to shut off the juice during a shift. That was posted in your other thread as well.

because the window switch will make it more consistent than me or any other human ever will. I can then deactivate it IF i WAnt or i can let it start again in 3rd gear. i am trying to avoid spraying THROUGh shifts....

If you want to avoid spraying shifts, don't activate it until 3rd gear....and make sure you don't go into 4th. But what a waste! 1st and 2nd gear have alot more as far as gains on the bottle!

Then hit it as soon as you shift into 2nd....and right before 5000 rpm or so, shut it off, whch will be shortly before the shift.
