I just got an 01 firebird and i want to fix it up to be really loud and fast. I really dont know much about cars but i want to learn. guys at school keep talking about nitrous, but i am totally clueless as to what it does and if it's good for the car or not. please help me out. about how much faster can i make my car go and whats the best way to do it?
hmmmm lets see...i think we covered basically EVERYTHING you'd want to know about nitrous is a post in this section called "joining the ranks" ...just do a search on it...you need to research nitrous and its use...there is wayyyyyy too much to sum it up in one answer...in short...properly used...and with the proper supporting mods...nitrous can take 1 - 3 seconds off of your 1/4 mile elapsed time (ET) ..and is by far the best bang for the buck (again..when properly used)..check out www.nosnitrous.com ...they have a lot of literature on ther site giving TONS of info on different types of nitrous systems...running them properly...FAQs...etc...there are DEFINITELY other mods that should be done to a factory car before nitrous...if i were you...just getting into nitrous...i would look at NOS kit# 5175...its a basic dry nitrous kit ...the other 2 types are wet, and direct port...but you'll find out more about those in research
good god did you guys go over everything in that post. It was around for like a month solid. check out forced induction as well if you are looking at adding a lot of power.

The only good thing going on right now in FI is a 2 frount flame war.
You can do a lot with the 3800. It works well with nitrous.
You have to watch how you use it. One of the main reasons why people ruin there engines is to much nitrous and not enough fuel.
Wrong timing, fuel, spark plugs, and others can help mess up an engine.
Bouncing off the revv limiter dosen't help any.
