• Pressure Transducer

i've never heard anyone here using one of these or mentioning it..so i thought i would..

i was getting my bottle topped off today because i'll be out racing this weekend..i mentioned to the guy that i was having trouble keeping my bottle pressure up..and told him that i had NOS's thermostatically controlled bottle warmer..he suggested that i try using a "pressure transducer" ..its a small part that comes off of the bottle and connects to the wires of the bottle warmer..it keeps the heater on by using pressure instead of temperature..so basically the bottle warmer stays on until the bottle pressure is between 900 - 950psi..and he said his works AWESOME..and that you can run the bottle down till you have only one pound left and your psi will still be around 900..this is a part the NX sells..but will also work with NOS..i thought it was pretty cool..im definitely gonna look into one

heres T Byrne Motorsports's write-up about it..cost around $200..it is a complete kit with a new warmer and everything..not sure if you can get the transducer seperately but i imagine you would be able to..

A must for all nitrous kits and nitrous systems. All nitrous kits should run at over 900 psi bottle pressure. This 12-3/4 x 5-1/4 heater is rated at 240 watts (over 4 times our competition's heater; 60 watt). It is attached to the bottle by "D" rings and heavy nylon Velcro straps to assure a perfect tight fit so it won't slip or short out. It comes with a "super heavy duty" 40 amp anti-fly back relay (no RFI signals to interfere with electronic ignitions or computers), lighted red toggle (to remind you that it is on), and a pressure transducer to detect bottle pressure. Simply turn it on and heats bottle to 1050 PSI and shuts off. When bottle drops to 900 PSI it turns on and heats bottle to 1050 PSI. Continuous duty and cycling is controlled by transducer.

I've never heard it called that before, but they can be installed with any bottle heater.

I've never needed one of those.

I run a dual set up.... and NOS bottle warmers... and psi isn't a problem at all.

Don't use it if your bottle is next to your amp the RF will jack the signal BIG TIME. Not to mention that these tend to drift over time. At least the MKS and Span one's do...

I wonder if there's a way to modify the thermastat so it cuts off at a higher temp, I'm using a NOS bottle heater on my NX and it cuts off at 80 degrees (900 psi) and the NX kit runs most efficient at 1025 psi or something like that, I was thinking about getting one of those.

Yes there is, but I wouldn't do it. Most cylinders can handle up to 3000 PSI (not to mention very high temps) but from what I have noticed the nitrous companys arn't going with those. Before you start messing with the heating jacket, find out what your cylinder is rated for and make sure that the temp to pressure ratio doesn't come within 10% of it..

Heh well I wasn't planning on upping it much more then 80 degrees, I'm just looking to get the pressure up to what NX recommends (1050 PSI). Are the heating jackets the clear plastic tubes that hold the thermostat?

i just cut my thermostats off and keep a close eye on the pressure gauge..i run at about 1050 psi
