I was doing a little searching about gears with nitrous, and see that James (12secv6) seems really opposed to higher gears with a nitroused car. Although I see lots of people here that spray with 3.42s. I myself was thinking about getting 3.73s and LSD for my car.

The argument seems to be that you'll hit your OD with 3.42's which is a slower gear, thus accelerating slower. However, wouldn't the gains from the initial accelerating through all the rest of your gears more than make up for the little bit you'd be in 4th? I mean, you see lots of a4 TA's that have upgraded to 3.73's, and it definately drops their times. And I run similar to what they do stock w/3.23's, while spraying. Wouldn't adding 3.73's still drop my time dramatically as opposed to my open 3.08's?

Also, I'm looking at grabbing a bottle heater soon for my setup, and was just wondering how many other people have bottle heaters with thier bottle in the wheel well? It's kind of a tight fit, but I shouldnt' run into any problems should I? I'm mainly worried about damaging my interior panel when it's on and concealing the bottle.

    Thanks!

I have 3.42s and love them. They are perfect for regular daily driving and for the weekend track runs.

As for the botte heater, DEFINITELY get one. They are needed to get the pressure up to correct operating temps and allow you to maximize your nitrous system. Without a heater, your PSI is to low and your 85 dry shot is hitting like a 50 dry shot because PSI plays a big part with nitrous. The heaters fit nice and tight around the bottles so you wont having a problem fitting it.

That's a huge difference. When I ran my best at the track my bottle pressure was just a little under 900 psi, around 875 or so and it shaved 1.1 sec off my time, I'd really like to try it at around 950 - 1000 psi. I'm getting the bottle heater next week sometime, and will hit the track soon after.

I was very strongly concidering getting 3.73's even though my car is an a4. What did you use to correct shift points/speedo? What do you recommend? Congrats on being engaged btw. And also you have a really cool video of your car, looks good! I guess I can't forget to mention it has the best soundtrack ever!
