• 10 lb. VS. 15lb NOS Bottle

Is there any differences between the two bottles other than the most obvois difference of size and weight?

In conversation, one of my friends said that the larger the bottle, the larger the chance of damage.. to me it made no sense, because the nozzle size determines how much nitrous is recieved. I don't believe him but was he right?

Well..... he is partly right.... and partly wrong.

Engine wise.... nitrous shot remains the same..... so no increase in engine damage there.

If the bottle ruptures.... 15 lb bottle will yield more damage than a 10 lb bottle

how common is it for a NOS bottle to rupture and under what conditions will they rupture?

i believe the most common way to rupture the bottle is leaving your bottle heater on by mistake.

ive seen very few cases.

and only when a blow down tube isnt present

i leave my bottle in the car year round.. -30* to 95* with a blow down tube..the disk has never ruptured..if you do not use a heater with some sort of thermostat..you need to make SURE to turn it off or wire it so it is only on while the ignition is in the accessory or on position..of course i am not saying that it cant happen

Now you all know that the 1st half of a bottle of nitrous is the best the rest of it is okay.. Now for a 15 lb bottle is this the same??

The bigger bottle will allow the pressure to stay more constant for longer too, I think.

nope..the bottle pressure will change at the same rate no matter what the size..properly mounted and pressurized..it should hit just as hard all the way through to the last drop

Wrong....
A larger volume bottle will be less affected by a pressure drop.

From a science standpoint:
With nitrous, to bottle (volume) remains constant, the temp stays fairly close.
PV=NRT
NR is kind of like the amount of gas present.
When you use nitrous, NR goes down, so to make PV = NRT, either P or V need to go down also, again, volume is fixed, so the pressure has to go down.

Its easy to deduce that a large V (bottle), the less the pressure would change to accomodate a drop in density.

but if you're dealing with pounds/square inch (psi) ..a drop in psi of 100 is the same whether you have a 10 or 15 pound bottle..if the bottle goes from 1000 psi to 900 psi..it will effect the shot performance the same no matter what size bottle you have..are you just saying that it will be harder for a 15 pound bottle to drop 100 psi than it would be for a 10 pound bottle?..if that is the case..i imagine it would also be harder to heat and raise the perssure up..am i correct on that?

Yes.

Yes, it would take slightly longer to heat 15 lbs of nitrous than it would 10 lbs.
When they fill it, there would be additional time because they have to put in 5 more lbs. None of this matters on the track though.
