• Need some advice

Okay, I own a 1997 Camaro RS, it is my daily driver and I have been toying with the idea of installing nitrous. I am not new to the idea or concept of how it works, but I am a little skeptical because I hear of so many people who blow their motors due to the use of nitrous. I am only thinking of a 50 to 75 hp boost. The only mods I have are Flowmaster exhaust and K&N air filter. Is it safe for my motor? Any advice?

There are a few questions you have to ask yourself before you do it.

Why do you want it with such little mods? Yes, its a very cheap form of forced induction, but you'd have to make sure not to use it much.

How many miles on your engine?

Now, after that, I will give my 2 cents. Wait to put nitrous in til after you have supporting mods first. Regear it. Get some Headers. If you dont plan on going very far modding your car... stop now. If you ever want to sell your car, DO NOT INSTALL NITROUS.

Not trying to put you down in the idea of wanting nitrous, just in my oppinion it should be done when all other means of gaining horsepower are exausted (N/A) then go for FI options.

see my website in my sig.

I have nitrous but I made sure I had it breathing correctly and all before it along with the gears. I have a nx wet kit and started out with the 50 shot, went to a 75 shot, and now at a 100 with tuning

I didnt know anyone made headers for this motor! I have tried and tried to find headers, but everyone I asked said they could only get them for LT1's and LS1's. Could you give me a link to a website or online catalog that I could get them? Also, where and how much would a set of gears cost for this car? I know how much they are for the Z28 and SS, but not sure about the V6. By the way, you asked how many miles on the car: 64,488. I will soon have some pics up too.

Thanks alot guys. I appreciate all the help. I have been searching around the other forums and found that it is possible to supercharge this motor as well so I think will do that instead of NO2 after I get the headers. Again, thanks.

deff do suporting mods first. there is no point is starting at the top and working your way down. if you don't want to blow your engine you have to make sure to do things right. and the best thing to do to any car is make sure that it can breath. so get a good intake, whisper lid, headers, and a high flow cat. that is where you should start. and then you will really feel the nitrous alot more if you then decide to go that way.

make sure you get a decent exhaust system too..i run a hollow cat with an open borla cat back..get a new fuel filter and some NGK TR6 plugs gapped at .035 ..stock fuel pump will be fine for a 75 shot..upgrade for anything bigger than that..i have 100K miles on my car and it is my daily driver
