  • Trying to Understand Backfires and why they Happen

I've seen a couple videos of cars backfiring while running nitrous and I want to understand them a little better so hopefully I will never run into one.

Things that possibly cause a backfire(please correct me if I'm wrong):
    Sprayng below 3k RPMs
Spraying while the car is not at WOT
Not having injectors powerful enough to increase fuel pressure on a high shot
Never upgrading fuel pump on a high shot
    Not running NGK TR6 plugs
Running to high of a shot

What else would cause a backfire?

uneven areas in the intakes where nitrous/fuel puddles will cause backfires. Getting the intakes Ported reduces the risk of puddling.

Can I port the intake myself? if not how much does it usually cost?

abbott racing has them also (http://www.abbottracingheads.com/gm3800.html), I beleive they are cheaper than supersixmotorsports as well, like $300. Some people do port their own as well. Depends on if you know how to use the tools for it. Mainly The upper and lower intake manifolds are ported to match each other and the lower intake manifold is ported to match the cylinder heads which in your case would be stock. So you would use the stock gaskets to gasket match the lower intake to the heads.

how hard is it to install a p&p intake?
does it involve the throttle body?
