Well, im starting to run out of bolt ons, and i have been looking at nitrous kits and have found that most are reasonably priced. What kit would be a good one to go with? Zex or NX? Wet or Dry? I don't want to put too much strain on the motor, and i want to make sure it is fairly safe so i dont blow the motor up. To be safe, what would be a good shot to run? 50? I don't need a whole lot, just a lil some some to pick it up a bit. I am a complete noob when it comes to nitrous, i know nothing about it, other than just the simple basics.

Re: I think it is time for nitrous, point me in the right direction
i personally have the harris speed works kit. i have nothing but good things to say about it. u can safely run up to a 75 shot with basic bolt ons, anything over that u will get into fueling issues. if u do it nitrous its best to get all the saftey devices avaiable: full throttle switch, rpm window switch, and a fuel pressure saftey switch. with all of these u are pretty much as safe as ur gonna get. u will deffently get tired of that 50 shot with a quickness and want to move on up, so just be ready nitrous= very addicting.
ps.....another popular kit is made by nos......i forget the exact part number (maybe 5175?).......im sure someone will help me out here.

Re: I think it is time for nitrous, point me in the right direction
The NOS 5175 is a great kit for a noob. I'm telling you this as a noob myself. Chubby is right though, be careful, n20 is VERY addicting. :)
If you want to go any more than 75 hp, get a hi-flow fuel pump and bigger injectors. Just know that if you upgrade your injectors you need a dyno tune.sigpic

Re: I think it is time for nitrous, point me in the right direction
haha, everything about modding is addictive man. Im never satisfied, always something else that can be done. thanks for the info though. i think i will be happy with a 75 shot, i dont want to have to put a whole lot more money into it than i need to. I just need a decent contender thats respectable. lord knows if i ever open the engine up im gonna max out my credit card. I'll definitly get all the safety features i can for it, i would find a way to screw it up somehow....haha. What are the prices and such for refills of n20 as well? Ball park figure wise, i understand it will probably be different shop to shop.Black 1996 3.8 Firebird T5, SLP CAI, Pacesetter Ceramic Headers,160* t-stat, PCMforLess Tune, Flowmaster American Thunder catback, Car Sounds Cat, custom s-pipe, MSD coils and wires, NGK plugs, 3.42 posi rear, B&M Ripper, 245/50 BFG-G-force's

Re: I think it is time for nitrous, point me in the right direction
prices just depened from place to place. locally i can get it for about 3.00 - 3.50 a lb, but i have seen it for as much as 4 to 4.50 a lb. so you would be looking at between 30-45 dollars for a 10 lbs bottle.

Re: I think it is time for nitrous, point me in the right direction
if you are concerned about any engine damage but still want to run nitrous i would recommend NOS dry kit 5175 with a 75 shot..and yes..read all the stickies..TONS of info in there

Re: I think it is time for nitrous, point me in the right direction
Yeah, ive burried my self in those stickies for a while the other day, trying to read up and learn as much as i could. I've looked into the nos 5175 kit, and that seems like it would be a good kit to go with. I know you guys say n20 is addictive, haha and im sure it is, but i really dont plan to go over a 75 shot. As far as wet and dry, what is the difference? Is one safer than the other, or perform better? n20 is some exciting stuff, i've had dreams of low 14sec passes. :) i think im gonna go to barnes and noble and read that book for free too hahaLast edited by Harrison; 04-23-2006, 08:42 PM.Black 1996 3.8 Firebird T5, SLP CAI, Pacesetter Ceramic Headers,160* t-stat, PCMforLess Tune, Flowmaster American Thunder catback, Car Sounds Cat, custom s-pipe, MSD coils and wires, NGK plugs, 3.42 posi rear, B&M Ripper, 245/50 BFG-G-force's

Re: I think it is time for nitrous, point me in the right direction
A dry kit sprays just nitrous into the intake, a wet kit sprays a mixture of nitrous AND fuel into the intake.
Pros of dry kit: easy to install, no backfire problems, no puddling of fuel to cause detonation in a cylinder.
Pros of wet kit: dont have to worry about leaning out the fuel mixture and I THINK you can get more sprays out of each bottle cuz it uses let nitrous each shot (not quite sure on that).
Dry kits spray BEFORE the MAF.
Wet kits spray AFTER the MAF.
Many people suggest a dry kit for noobs then once you gain experience you can convert it to a wet kit if you want.sigpic

Re: I think it is time for nitrous, point me in the right direction
Dry kit (nos 5175) is nice and easy. Simple 85 shot will do wonders for your car. As long as you have a full tune up and plugs then you can run the 85 with no worries.
Keep in mind, if you have an ailing car, don't spray. Make sure you have a FULL tune up! Pay attention to ALL stickies.
Wet sprays nitrous and fuel
Dry sporays nitrous and relies on injectors adding extra fuel
On our engines, 3800 series 2, due to the design of the intake manifold, dry is safer.
Cons of dry kit - maxing out injectors - even though I didn't on my 120 dry.
Cons of wet kit - wicked damaging back fires, puddling in intake manifold, uses MORE fuel!Race car - gone but not forgotten - 1997 firebird V6

I wouldn't go over 85 dry without upgrading fuel system

Re: I think it is time for nitrous, point me in the right direction
You guys forgot to mention that wet nitrous is more potent. Friend of mine dynoed 310 rwhp on a 150 dry shot then converted to wet and made 322 rwhp on 100shot wet in his v6 stang. Wet is just as dangerous as dry, just do the safety procautions and you won't have to worry about it either way.\'99 SSM Camaro V6 M5
(mod list on cardomain site; too long to list here)
http://www.cardomain.com/id/v6cam99
