  • just have a quick question about runnin nitrous

Ok heres the thing, I'm thinking about going with nitrous but not really sure what to get. I'm new to the whole nitrous thing. I was told by a few people that running nitrous will cause engine trouble and I will have to rebuild it all the time....now is this true or no?

Re: just have a quick question about runnin nitrous

Tell them thats :bs: and to educate themselves. The "Nitrous Bible" (check out the sticky for more info) by Joe Pettitt categorizes this subject very, very well:

"At the first sign of problems, there are always those who instantly blame the nitrous system for everything. On the other hand there are those who are willing to spend a little extra time and effort to learn how nitrous works so that they can make an educated choice when the time comes to buy the correct type of nitrous system for their appliction or to track down a problem they may be dealing with right now." -Joe Pettitt

There are people who think nitrous is so incredibly unsafe and will tell you that your motor is going to blow up if you have it. Then there are the educated people (such as on this website) who know what they are doing, get the right mods, the right nitrous application and arent stupid about installing it and have REALLY fast cars that arent blown up.

Nitrous gets a really bad name cuz of old school guys who had it on there muscle cars back in the 70's and blew them up. Guess what, we have hella more technology today!! It also gets a bad rap cuz of people who bought a kit of off ebay after seeing F&F, slapped it on their stock 4 banger with no mods or tuning and blew it up. Why? Because they didnt know what the hell they were doing. Which is what leads peopel to believe nitrous is the anti christ.

I am not claiming to be an expert. I am not saying nitrous is 100% safe (ask James about his first motor), but I am saying that with the right safety equipment, the right nitrous system, the right shot size, the right mods and a good tune...you are much less likely to blow anything up and rebuild an engine.

When I was searching around on this subject, I found that every single person who blew up a motor while running nitrous was cutting corners. Whether it be stock plugs, car that needed work (but they just hit the juice anyway), too big of a shot, hitting the rev limiter or improper install. Every case that I found COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED if they just took their time and were smarter about what they did with nitrous.

Moral of the story: Do your homework, do it right, dont cut corners, get the right mods, make dam sure the motor is running 100% and I believe you SHOULD be fine. Little disclaimer there. lol

As for who ever told you that you will constantly be rebuilding your motor, as Shane would say, tell them to S your D. :)
