    Re: I'm stuck

OK. Another quick questionf or you guys. Should I go with a wet or dry shot? Wet is more work to install, but is more reliable. Dry is less work to install, cheaper, but you have to depend on your stock injectors (they should be fine, right??). Any input? I was thinking wet at first, but being short on cash, was thinking of going with dry (cheaper kit, and cheaper install). Which would you guys recommend?

Everyone has different oppinions on wet vs dry.

I personally prefer a wet system. Being a mechanic, and the way my mind works, the absence of one of the two, or mass immersion change of one to another, compared to mixing the two on a constant.... wet will always seem more safe and better for the engine to me.

If your fuel system can't keep up with a dry shot for whatever reason, you burn a hole in your piston and that can be a real pain in the butt (having to get a new engine).

If your wet system isn't tuned correctly or one of the solenoids fails (how common is that though?) you can run super rich and not go very fast at all... or you can run super lean and blow the engine.. wet systems can also puddle fuel in the intake (how common is that too? i have no idea, but i hear it happens) and blow your intake manifold in such a way that your hood opens up for a fireworks show.

I went with a dry 75 shot (75HP at the wheels and some 80something at the crank using a 0.044 jet) and I have not blown my engine yet. 1.5 bottles down so far. i'm tempted to up the shot, but not without hooking up a wideband o2 sensor to watch my air/fuel ratio for lean conditions.

          Re: I'm stuck

I had a dry kit and converted it to wet and I LOVE it!! The wet kit hits much harder and the power is more consistant. It wasnt any harder to install either. I've never had any puddling or backfire in the intake.

I've been looking through the FL statutes, and haven't found anything specific about it yet. Only thing I can see them getting you on is "316.6105 Violations involving operation of motor vehicle in unsafe condition or without required equipment" It's a catch all. All the cop has to do is say it's unsafe. I'll keep looking though.

Someone told me that on LS1Tech. It was Texas though, not Florida.

                Re: I'm stuck

wet kit from what I understand is closer to the hp rating it states then dry, I don't have dyno #s its just what I heard......

as for dry being easier to install....I would disagree. I've installed both wet and dry kits on a 3.8 and IMO the dry was more complicated because you had to tap into the vacuum line, the wet just taps into your test port on the fuel rail assuming you have the test port I'm not sure the differences in years.

                  Re: I'm stuck

Splicing into a vacuum line was harder for you than drilling and tapping the throttle body? Hmmm...

I don't run nitrous any more, but I like the dry kit because it is simple. Simple means reliable. The second safety solenoid is a nice feature too.

he didnt drill and tap the TB though.
we did it right before that, into the neck of my lid. yeah, it can fu(k up the MAF/TB, but from what i've heard, that only happens if you spray A LOT. we'll see.

                      Re: I'm stuck

Right, I didn't drill into the TB it's Right before and pointing slightly downward, I was instructed by NX tech to do it this way and there's tons of other people running it this way as well. the instructions tell you to be 2-6" BEFORE the TB but the MAF in a 01 3.8 is actually on the TB so he told me to mount it and point it as far down as I could without spraying into the side of the intake, Kristen's car has been running the 100 shot like this for a long time with no problems.

                        Re: I'm stuck

I drilled into my TB and it was hella easy. My kit came with the tap size I needed though. I spray after the MAF and have no trouble what-so-ever. That is a controversial subject though, even for LS1 guys. I thought installing the wet kit was easier cuz that vac line is a PITA to get to and it always popped off causing me run waaaaayyyy lean.

I too have heard that wet kits run closer to the numbers as advertised. When I dynoed my car, I got EXACTLY an 80 shot which is what it is jetted for.

OK guys. I'll just go with whatever I can find, since there seems to be mixed opinions, and the kits aren't much different.

                          Thanks
