your car in stock trim has approx 160-170h if its an auto. 170-180 if its a manual. (rear wheel hp)
this is with it in tip top running condition.

shooting for 300-350 is a huge leap. your looking at a 150-200 shot of giggle juice.
    NOT RECOMMENDED!

lots of upgrades needed/recommended for anything over a 100 shot.
fuel pump, all the safety gizmo's, tuning, etc, etc.
read the sticky at the top of the page.
remember nitrous is a VERY violent hit on the motor and trans, rear end, etc..going to big will cause you some grief, and a butt load of $$ for repairs....

if your goal is 300-350 and your not interested in FI (forced induction-turbo or supercharger) then look into a v8 swap or sell your car and buy a v8.
the most cost effective route is to buy another car.

our little 3.8's respond well to a 75h wetshot. loads of fun.
    peace

I think he's talking about crank hp. If so, you dont need a 150-200 shot, a 75-80 dry shot with supporting mods will get you ~300 crank hp.

Search, search and search some more. This has been discussed 1000000000 times and there is a ton of info on this board.

      This should get you started:

          Re: new to nitrous...

Is your exhaust just a muffler or is it full cat-back? I would recommend full cat-back for the best performance and safety, full cat-back flows MUCH better.

Is your K&N just a filter or a K&N intake system. Just a filter really wont cut it, get a full intake system. K&N makes one called the FIPK and its pretty good, but its around $200. SLP makes one too and its about the same price. Or you can do as I did and check out eBay and get one for about $60. The eBay option is the best for the money I think and power is going to be about the same.

You will need TR6 plugs gapped at .035 to run any nitrous at all(they are dirt cheap). You could "safely" do up to about 85 shot of nitrous on a stock motor. 85-100 shot you will need to upgrade the fuel pump. >100, 36 lbs injectors. This is for a dry shot. Wet shot just upgrade the fuel pump for anything over 100. Any shot size above 125 will need upgraded bottom end.

If I were you, I would try to find a used NX or NOS nitrous system. They are for sale all the time here and on LS1Tech.com for pretty dam cheap.

NX wet system or NOS dry system.....~$300-$400 used

Bottle heater.....$130 brand new (used are hard to find) This regulates bottle pressure.

Cat-back exhuast....~$150 (assuming you will just upgrade the piping from the cat to the exhaust and pay a shop to do it)

          Intake system.....$60 off eBay store

          TR6 spark plugs.....$13

Total.....$653-$753. I would plan on spending around $900 just in case. No project ever goes exactly as planned ;)

That does not include installation (except your exhaust), I installed my kit and its not too difficult.

I do recommend that you get a purge kit and nitrous pressure gauge (either bottle mounted or pillar gauge). Purge kit will bring fresh, cold liquid to the solenoids and helps control line pressure. The nitrous pressure gauge will tell you either line pressure (pillar gauge in the car, $200) or bottle pressure (mounted on the bottle $50), this is necessary cuz you only want to spray between 900 and 1100 psi.

BTW, make sure what ever nitrous kit you buy comes with a Fuel Pressure Safety Switch. If it doesnt, then buy one separetly, they are about $35 from Summit. An FPSS will shut off the solenoids if fuel pressure drops below a selected psi. This little piece can/will save you from running too lean and blowing the motor.

You should do all the safty features you can unless you want to replace your engine parts or the entire engine nirous can cause damage. Good luck

this was a great post. consider it gospel.
the only thing that i would possibly add is a wideband sensor/gauge/display. or at a minimum an air/fuel ratio gauge to help keep an eye on things.

tuning is also recommended but most "kits" have safe jetting tables if followed.
                good luck.

If you value the motor, yes. Nitrous is an extremely violent power-adder and if the car is not ready for such surge in power....BOOM. :)

Remember hp isnt cheap. Although nitrous is the cheapest way to get hp, it will still cost ya.

I didnt mention an air/fuel ratio gauge as usd2sing said, but he is right, they are a good investment. Tuning isnt 100% needed, but it sure can make a world of difference, especially for dry kits (they tend to have more issues of running lean).
